Thanks for the news.

Got any more announcements from Disney Customer Relations that will get their own thread? :P

(I'm personally hoping for "The Rocketeer will be taken out of print to make room for a new two-disc Special Edition"...)

Perfect timing for a Halloween release!

But under the "Disney Family Classics" title, I wonder?

If it's got an anamorphic transfer I'll buy, but I'd prefer it to go blu. My guess is that it will be equally as impressive as the recent re-release for the live-action 101 Dalmatians.

I hope they put this out on Blu. This is truly one of my all-time fav Disney live films! Maybe it'll be filled to the rim with bonus features!

I've been wanting a release of this for sooooo long. I heard that the current release is simply awful and the only version of it that I currently have is from my DVR (of course, in fullscreen). Hopefully it will go Blu and I would definitely get that, if not, I don't know what I'll do.

The DVD has absolutely no bonus features (unless you call chapter selection a bonus). I'm not sure if it's got the market for a blu-ray, but a 2-disc DVD would definetly be nice! I've seen some really cool behind the scenes video for this movie. I don't think a special edition would come out this halloween though because if it's going to be discontinued in september, copies will still be circulating and they'd have just under 2 months to hype up the new release. maybe the following halloween would be more likely. it is a great movie though! one of my disney favourites :)

I definitely would double-dip on this for a blu-ray, even though I'm still without an HDTV (hopefully, maybe sometime this year I'll get one). I'll be really ticked if Disney does what it's been doing lately and releases only a standard version but with enough bonus features that I still really badly want it. I still might not double dip for a standard DVD, even if it's a 2 discer... It's ridiculous to be releasing only standard versions at this point!

Maybe Disney thinks that some titles have less appeal than others and don't want to spend the extra money making a movie ready for Blu-ray right now if they don't think that it will sell well?

I can't help but think that most people who love this movie already have it and that a blu-ray release would have more appeal than a rerelease. I mean, they're likely to release it on blu-ray eventually anyway... I can't believe they've released Mary Poppins yet again on standard and not on Blu-ray.

Hocus Pocus would sell as well on Blu-ray as any other general catalog title from Disney or any other studio. The DVD has consistently sold well since its release and is a perennial member of Amazon's best-seller list each autumn.

Great news that a re-release may be on the way! It's about flippin' time... the non-anamorphic transfer drives me crazy. 16x9-enhanced is essentially a given this time around. Come on, Blu-ray!!

Much like with "The Black Cauldron", I'll double-dip simply for an anamorphic transfer.

But, uh, some special features wouldn't be a bad thing. One can dream.

I guess that could be a big selling point. If I had a widescreen TV, I'd double dip for the anamorphic transfer too.

That's what I think as well. New releases seem to do well on Blu-ray, but some catalog ones do not. Blu-ray is still "new", not everything is going to be available at once.

Any more news about this? I've been checking BBFC to see about any news but no such luck. It would make sense to put this out on September 8th (in time for Halloween by Disney's standards) with Bedknobs and have that "buy-two-and-save" deal with these two witch related titles.

It doesn't seem to be happening this year. Maybe next year along with Ichabod and Mr. Toad?

Hocus Pocus is now on the itunes store and the trailer included on the page to buy the movie shows some unused footage both not on the DVD or the 30 second home video trailer posted on youtube.

PUT THIS KIND OF STUFF ON THE NEW DVD DISNEY!

I remember the behind the scenes of it. They focused a lot on the costume design and the main costume designer was talking about how each one of the sister's dresses helped to emphasize their personalities. I remember a lot of talk about Kathy's dress, with the animal bones and skulls and such on the belt. As well as covering Binx and make-up such as on the witches and zombie. And of course some focus on the music. That would be an awesome bonus feature.

You would think spending the month of October high on Amazon's top sellers chart each year would apprise Disney that the public would appreciate a better edition. Maybe it just tells them the public is still willing to buy a barebones, non-anamorphic DVD years after such things are considered unfashionable.
