Hey everybody! I know at least one of you will be able to answer this one for me. Whose initials are in the concrete in Lady and the Tramp? I was asked that today and realized that I had no idea. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!!

It seems I read somewhere (I think in one of Dave Smith's articles in Disney Magazine) that it's unknown whose initials they might be.

It says JM and EB, but I don't know who's names those are supposed to be. At first I thought it might be Jim Dear and Darling's real names, but then the last initial would be the same.

Hidden in the pavement on Main Street USA at the Magic Kingdom is a recreation of the heart with the dog prints in it. It's outside of Exposition Hall.

Maybe it's a future reference to James Marsden and Emma Bunton...

The last initial probably wouldn't be the same if it was done while they were still just dating (and I don't see a married couple doing something like that anyway, lol). ;)

Any conclusive thoughts though?

According to this page on Disney trivia . . .

Q: In Lady & the Tramp what 2 sets of initials appear in the cement heart when Lady and the Tramp spend their first evening together?

A: J.M. and E.B. But no one knows why the Disney Artists used these specific initials.

I'm guessing a layout or background artist chose those initials.

Maybe it's like asking: Why did they put "SFX" in the clouds in The Lion King?
(And I doubt the answer was to cause a bunch of urban legends and get their name all over Snopes.com  )

Though that's interesting, I never noticed that when watching Lady and the Tramp. Nice find!

I read somewhere that her name is Elizabeth...
So it very well could be their initials, pre-marriage :)

It can't be the initials pre-marriage. It's wet cement! It's brand new!

I know it's not what the initials mean, but for some reason, the first things that popped in my head when I read them were the authors, J.M. Barrie and E.B. White.

A member at the Swedish Disney-related site magicmovies.se asked Dave Smith about it and got the following reply by e-mail:
We have never been able to determine who the initials belong to. Even the animators who worked on the film did not know. It was suggested that someone who worked on the film put his initials with his girlfriend's inside the heart, but there is no one credited on the film who has those initials.

I don't think Jim Dear and Darling were running around in the park that night either. ;)

Wow, nice! I'd actually thought of E.B. White myself but drew a blank with the J.M. :D
