Hey, guys. I Have not been around in a while, but I wanted to make a recommendation to all of you.

I just read a relatively recent book by Corey Doctorow called "Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom," and it was an awesome read. I't s a sci-fi thriller about different factions in the "ad-hoc" that controls the future Disney World. One group wants to update the rides with new technology that directly beams info into people's brains, while the other group is fighting to preserve the rides in their historic condition. It's really good sci-fi with lots of interesting concepts and subplots concerning the state of the future society, and interesting whodunnit, and lots of passion for Disney World.

The story kind of made me think of the current debate over 2D vs 3D animation in Disney films.

Heh - as I was reading your description of the book I was thinking that exact thought. It sounds like an interesting concept - I must try and check and see if the library I work in can order it. Thanks for the tip :)

I think I like that type of sci-fi better - the "what if..." stories, that are partially based in reality, partially social commentary. The Philip K Dick stuff for example. I do enjoy some of the more way out, explosions a go-go sci-fi, but I'll always come back that type of thing.

And if I haven't done so already (or even if I have) - welcome to the forum, Brer Brandon.

I just discovered that the author will let you download the full text of the novel from his website. He offers it in a variety of digital formats.
