Ken Russell's THE DEVILS and a documentary

I just watched an uncut print of the highly controversial Ken Russell film "The Devils" made in the 1970s. As a Catholic I thought I would be highly offended and disgusted. Strangley, though, I was more curious as to the making/meaning/impact of this film. Sure there were a lot of parts that made me feel gross, but I don't think this film is trying to make you feel anything but. I mean, the actual story is NOT a good one. However, there is room for criticism of "over-the-top" complaints as so much of this film is meant to make you 'feel' rather than be historically accurate in any sense of the word.

Anyway, while I started reading up on this film I found out that there was a documentary made back in 2002 called, "Hell on Earth: The Desecration and Resurrection of The Devils". I can't find it anywhere, and thought maybe I'd send a shout out to my friends here and see if anyone could point me in the right direction.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this movie? Or know where I can find a copy of the documentary? Thanks in advance for any and all help.

I did some quick checking, and the documentary is on an out-of-print (and I believe unauthorized) DVD of the movie that you can probably buy on Amazon Marketplace. Or you can check out Asylum of Oblivion.

Maybe it's on... YouTube?? Don't know.

Did you watch the movie because you're a fan of the filmmaker?

I'm not particularly a fan of the filmmaker. I think Ken Russell does good work, but I'm never really drawn to any of his movies.

I think I'm more a fan of controversy. Whenever a movie causes any kind of controversy I usually have to search it out and see it for myself. I kind of like to be 'in the know' on all the jokes and arguments when it comes to those types of things. I'm also a big fan of all things 1970s. Here was this movie from the 1970s that caused a TON of controversy and it was kind of calling my name, ha ha ha!

Thanks a TON Albert for the solid lead on the documentary. I am totally on the prowl with a renewed fervor now :)

Have you seen Cannibal Holocaust yet? Banned in something like 40 countries or more in the world. They don't come more controversial than that.
