Walt Disney Treasures on Blu Ray?

Hello all,
I just started to really get into classical animation, and have picked up a the few Treasures sets for the first time. Ever since I got a BD player, I pretty much try to avoid standard DVDs, unless they are very obscure, less commercial titles that will be a while before coming out on BD, if ever. However, since most of the Treasues I bought feature vintage, black and white cartoon shorts, I doubt a BD upgrade will look that much better (they really look amazing upconverted on my TV,) unlike BD releases of Disney's feature length animated classics, which would be an improvement.
I was just wondering if there's been any buzz about Disney releasing future installments of their Treasures line on BD? It would be great to have the upcoming "Zorro" series on the format, and it would be the perfect way to reissue the early, hard to find titles from the Treasures line (like Mickey B/W vol.1, Silly Symphonies Vol.1, Davy Crockett, etc.), which originally came out about seven or eight years ago. Isn't that long enough to warrant a re-release from the "Vault", especially on a new format?
Thanks, Ryan

Not yet, but I'm sure they're coming. I doubt they'll be called "Walt Disney Treasures" when they arrive -- we could see a re-birth of the "Archive" label for Blu-Ray. We;ve had Archives and Treasures and Legacies, who knows what they'll come up with. But rest assured, its just a matter of time.

I really like the Treasures format, tin-case and all, and I would hope those would be carried over to eventual BD releases.

Hmm...maybe they'll bring back the blue band that were on early Treasures. Blue bands and Blu-Ray, it's a match made in heaven.

A re-release is needed but I'm not sure about Walt Disney Treasures on Blu-Ray. That might be asking too much...
and like I said in a previous thread, the entire world doesn't need to be released/re-released on Blu-Ray now or in the future.

Yeah, I think a treasures realease in bluray is way off for the time being.
Can you guys imagine how much it would cost to master the shorts in
high definition? A feature films is one thing but shorts wouldn't justify the
high costs, in my opinion.

The Disney shorts are evergreens, the company will still be selling the Goofy cartoons 50 years from now. Restoration now just pays dividends for the future.

I just think it would be a great excuse to bring back some of the early volumes. God knows they've out of print for long enough.
If they don't don't want to go through the trouble of remastering the early materials, there's still no reason they can't do it to future releases; Zorro would be a perfect candidtate for a BD Treasure.

I agree. Keep the packaging identical, just slap a blue sleeve on the BD versions.

They probably will be released eventually, but I doubt we will see any of them anytime soon.

Mybe it is just me, but I find that all of the Disney animated shorts, including those on the WDT to look very, very good upconverted on a Blu-Ray player. I see no need to rush with re-releases when there are so many things that still need to be released - can somebody say "So Dear To My Heart" (not that crappy DMC version), and "Song of the South".

If Dr Syn was restored in HD, I should be able to watch in in HD. Bring on the Treasure Blus!

That "crappy DMC version" of So Dear to my Heart looks pretty damn good -- its easily the best that film has looked on home video.
Song of the South isn't going to happen. The country is too reactionary about race right now, finding racism everywhere. Maybe in 40 or 50 years.

If Disney had foresight at all, they would've had the shorts transferred in HD to begin with; or at least for the last few waves. The industry knew HD was on the horizon for some time; and many companies were making HD transfers years before Blu-Ray and HD-DVD began their war.
I'd probably buy a BD re-release of the Treasures, myself.

I wonder how the cartoons would be handled on BluRay? Here are some things that I would like to see happen:
1. Donald's dialog from "Clock Cleaners" corrected
2. Maybe have BOTH versions of "The Three Little Pigs" (the one with the wolf dressed as a Fuller Brush man AND the one with him dressed as a Jewish peddler)
3. More bonuses on all the sets
4. All the non-WWII cartoons on Donald 2 have the much-deserved video qualities corrected
5. More Disneyland shows on the Disneyland DVDs (both of them)
6. The closing scene of "Bee On Guard" restored (when it was accidentally omitted on DVD)

I vote for Blu-Ray releases as well.
And with the available space on the discs they could do sets such as "Complete Mickey" and "Complete Donald".
And maybe tint the tins a metallic blue.

Here's a thought: what if they combined Goofy and Pluto together? Or Silly Symphonies and those specials together? By "specials", I mean, those non-series shorts that especially appeared on the Rarities DVD.

I would rather have them remastered in HD, then just multiple volumes of the same character on a single Blu-Ray.

I just wouldn't mind to see some of the earlier releases re-released on DVD.
