I know a number of people who didn't like the casing for the DVD versions of Wall-E, luckily I think Disney has responded to this. I was at the local Wally World using up a giftcard I got and they had I noticed about half of their dozen copies of the 3 disc version came in normal DVD cases with a regular slipsleeve. Unfortunately all the single disc versions were in still in the "environmentally friendly" casing. So, for those wanting a normal cased Wall-E to match your other Pixar titles, just keep your eyes open.

I was hoping that this would happen. Sort of wished I had waited. I've already moved my Wall-E to another case, but it would have been nice to have an option on the packaging.

All Asian releases came in either 2-disc or single disc version, no slipcase and no digital file and no eco-friendly packaging.

That would've pleased a lot of people here huh

Similarly, I noticed that Target had the new edition of The Nightmare Before Christmas in a normal case. The cover resembled the molded, three dimensional plastic face of Jack, but it was a normal two dimensional cover at closer inspection.

Back on topic, I am disappointed to know that the cardboard case for Wall-E has not been continued and expanded. I knew it was just a marketing ploy to tie into the environmental message of the movie, but if the company truly believed in the message, I had hoped they'd continue with more releases in cardboard cases. There is such a huge waste of plastic due to dvd and cd cases and due to product packaging in general. Fortunately, more and more cd releases are in cardboard.

I think the negative responses from DVD buyers would keep them from going to the paper cases. Overall from what I've heard/read the Wall-E case wasn't well received.

It's not just Target, all stores carry it. It's only two discs, and to my knowledge jettisons the disc of bonus features in favor of the digital copy disc. I mean, why would you possibly want the bonus features in favor of putting the movie on your iPod?

Well, so much for helping the environment.

I know I should have mentioned this before, but shortly after its release last August, a few local stores had Nightmare Before Christmas in a normal case with slipsleeve. The problem, though, is it was missing the iPod copy and the casing was billingual (actually with the French before the English)- luckily the Wall-E's I'm talking about don't have these problems.

correction..both the 2disc and single disc have slipcovers... the first one in gold and the second one in bluesilver.hologramic type. asians just never get inserts

I see that people really understood one of the messages of the movie...

How come? I didn't think it was that bad. Sure I prefer the standard DVD case w/slipcover...

Hey, plastic isn't bad for the environment unless you throw it out.

Who throws out DVDs? At the least I donate them to the local library if I get a new one or a better version...

Plus, those paper cases were lined with plastic anyway, they're just as bad environmentally as a plastic case would be. Unless you separate the paper from the plastic, but that doesn't happen naturally!

I don't mind paper cases, if they're done right. Independence Day has one (I think it was called the "double digipack"... it's a 2-disc set with the most extras to date) and it works really well. Wall-E's just sucked, though.

No I understand the message, and it was a good ideal. It just didn't turn out well in my opinion.

I have the "paper case"edition too, and I must say it holds the disks quite well.
People might now be complaining about having no plastic cover for Wall-E, but I'm sure that in the future this paper case edition will be regarded as 'unique' and become a valued collector's item!

Anyway, I will not be throwing the cover away anytime soon, so the 'recycling' idea is pointless to me.

I actually really like the paper case they used for the 3-disc WALL-E. It's a million times better than the one Fox used for The Simpsons Season 11.

I HATE that Simpsons case! However, I didn't mind the Wall-e case. It reminded me of the eco-friendlier Futurama DTV movie releases. I agree with those who said it seems hypocritical on Disney's part to change, but since I know a lot of people who didn't seem to like the original package...at least they're happy now.

Just wanted to add that I have The Nightmare Before Christmas in the "normal" package (when I bought the store had a few of both, I debated it but this one fits on my shelf much easier and it had a free Bolt ticket included) and it has both discs of material as well as the digital copy disc so all three discs are included.

I couldn't agree more. I guess they wanted to match the quality of the season (Which I thought was really the last of the good seasons).

Just wondering, what's so bad about this Simpsons casing everyone's on about? Sure, I don't care much for those head cases, that's why I've bought mine in the sans- head case, which are regular digipaks (even season 6, which I had to do some hunting for before I eventually found it right under my nose at the mall I worked at at the time). But I haven't bought season 11 (looks like that was the first 'bad' season so I'm not too interested), but from what it looks like, it's a regular one with a plastic mold of Krusty that appears to be removable (plus the same Wal-mart had the one without the head on sale for like $20! at the time I discovered the Wall-E normal casing).

It's not just the exterior, it's the interior. For one, it is stupid to make the headcase version be just the regular box with a plastic head smacked on, because now for the third time, the boxes don't have a similar look (assuming you went from cardboard to plastic head... I myself didn't). The disc cases themselves are wildly impractical- imagine a piece of cardboard folded over and sealed on three sides with a thin opening on the open side for the disc to go in. Now imagine four of those attached to each other, each with the opening facing in towards its neighbor's opening. And imagine that the opening doesn't serve its purpose, namely, to open, so that the DVDs are more likely to fall out accidentally when the paper "case" is folded up than when they're laid flat. Now imagine it 800 times wildly more impractical than what I've described. You have a slight idea of how badly packaged the last season is.

Aw, I was at Target yesterday and all their DVDs of Wall-E, single disc and 3-disc were still paper cases.

Maybe I'll try again next week. I want a plastic case, darn it!
