donald vol. 4 question

Hi I just have one question about chronological donald vol. 4. On disc 2 I noticed that I get black bars on the side of my tv (it is a widescreen tv) making the picture 4:3 in the menus. Also some of the shorts have black bars on the sides and top and bottom (I know some of the shorts are in widescreen no problems there). I find this odd because all the other disney treasures including disc one of this set have stretch the picture to fit my tv. Has anybody else noticed this? I wonder if it is a glitch to my disc or if they made the disc this way. Thanks.

It could be one of two things:

1. The way the DVD was authored (created) didn't make the widescreen shorts anamorphic.

2. They encoded the widescreen shorts with the black bars (letterboxed).

In either case, use the "zoom" feature on your TV remote to fix it.

Or it could be the settings on your player, but if Disc 1 runs fine Disc 2 should be as well.

Could be a glitch like I stated above. You could always call Disney support and let them know. Maybe they'll have to do a replacement like they did with prior sets.

I still didn't have the time to watch DD vol. 4, but I suspect the non-widescreen cartoons on disc 2 are encoded as widescreen with the black bars on the sides encoded with them. This is perfectly correct.
The stretching done with the cartoons on the first disc is actually incorrect: you are not seeing the entire encoded picture (as far as possible due to overscan): some part of the image is chopped off at the top and bottom of the image) and the image is stretched (incorrect aspect ratio) to fill the entire TV screen. They should normally also be shown with black bars on the side of the screen.
