I'm surprised not more people are talking about Prep and Landing.

It's not on the WDAS site but that could be because there's no place for it.

See, it's not a short and it's not a feature film.

It's Disney's first animated featurette since 1990's The Prince and the Pauper.

The Prince and the Pauper was 24 minutes long and ran before The Rescuers Down Under when it released in November 1990.

Could Prep and Landing at 30 minutes air before The Princess and the Frog since tPatF is getting a Christmas 2009 release and PaL is a Christmas themed featurette?

Bill Desowitz: Let's begin with what your pitching experience was like with John Lasseter.

Chris Williams: When you pitch to John, it can be any story, any genre -- as long as he's engaged and entertained, that's all that matters. And so he asked me to pitch some short ideas, and I pitched six and there were two that he responded to. Prep and Landing is being developed into a half-hour Christmas special for next year by Kevin [Deters] and Stevie [Wermers] of How to Hook Up Your Home Theater. Of course, John also took to Glago, which is totally different tonally from what you'd expect from Disney.

Sounds interesting. This is the first I'm really noticing it, even though I've read some of the articles you linked to. Anyway, I feel like present-day Disney so underestimates present-day audiences that they'd be scared of people walking out thinking there was some kind of projection error if the short ran longer than a few minutes. (Of course they could just run a notice on-screen beforehand.) There's also the issue of having fewer showtimes by having a half-hour tacked onto <i>Princess</i>' runtime. Has any featurette been screened pre-feature in recent years? The only things I can think of are shorts, most of which are <i>really</i> short.

As far as I know, no. It's only a theory that it could show before tPatF. They've never officially stated what will run in front of it, and even if they had, that's always subject to change. Glago's Guest unfortunately got pulled last second. Then they drop Tokyo Mater on us as a total surprise. We don't know how long tPatF will run. It plus a featurette could equal an acceptable running time. If it's interesting and engrossing, people won't probably care anyways. As far as I know, the last featurette before a film was 'Pauper' before 'Resuers'.

It's funny, I was going to post a thread asking if Disney was considering making featurettes again and noticed this thread. I think my favourite is Mickey's Christmas Carol.

Isn't it strange seeing WDAS produce something for TV rather than theatres? Have they even ever done that before?

I had already discussed this here as soon as I found out.

I was hoping it was hand-drawn. Maybe I knew it was CGI and forgot.

Either way, I'm definitely excited to see this!

No updates for the short 'Tic Tock' or feature "Winnie the Pooh", yet.

I was given to understand that Prep and landing began as a theatrical short...It was then extended into a featurette that will be screened on ABC sometime around christmas...Though it would be nice if it got a theatrical release-- I remember reading somewhere that it was requisitioned for TV..though it is still a WDAS production. I remember seeing some early tie inns --like books etc to be released around the same time...There might be some pre order tie inns on Amazon already..So Im guessing its going to receive some fairly decent promotion. Looking forward to seeing it!

Yes. It was one of several shorts pitched to Lasster to re-start the shorts program at WDAS. It got extended into a featurette and will be the first WDAS animated creation to be direct-to-TV.

I saw it at the D23 Expo and without saying too much, it was AMAZING! Everyone was laughing so hard. I hope this does well so that they will make more. I can't wait to see it again!

ABC just posted the commercial on their site. Unfortunately, you have to watch another commercial to watch it, but its worth it. I can't wait to see this again!

wow, i havn't really been paying that much attention to this at all but it looks great!

It's weird because it's a Disney featurette, but at the same time it shares a lot of Pixar's. It looks as if Disney's CGI animation has gotten even better since Bolt.

I'm really excited now, and I'll definitely be tuning in to see it!
