Anybody own the Animated Anthology?

I know this is kinda dumb, but I was just thinking about the LI DVDs, and it got me thinking - does anyone here own the Animated Anthology box set? If so, where did you get it? How much did you pay for it? I know you obviously would have gotten it years and years ago because it's long OOP, but I was just curious.

While I never owned the set itself, I had many of the Limited Issues and almost had the box set. I found it at Sam's Club back when it was new (which I think was 2000, so like 8 years ago now). At that time I didn't own any of the DVDs inside. I remember asking for it for Christmas and the whole reason that I didn't get it was because when I pre-ordered Snow White on DVD through the Disney Store, they were giving away a free Limited Issue with it. I got the Jungle Book and since I now owned one of the DVDs from the box, my mom said it would be cheaper to just buy them individually. On top of that, there wasn't much need for me to have The Lion King II on DVD (that was an odd choice to be in a box with all the rest).
In retrospect, I'm really glad I never got the box set because most of the DVDs from it got better releases later (with the exception of Hercules, but Pinocchio is coming out this Spring). I guess at this point, the only reason to want it would be for collectors purposes.

Really? That's cool, how much was it (if you remember)? And I really want the LI of Hercules because I like that artwork SO much better than the GC edition. And I've been holding off on getting the LI of Pinocchio for YEARS, so the PE had better be good!

Given that the boxset was just a repackaging of all 9 LI titles, it makes sense for TLK2 to be in there.
Anyway, I remember when the boxset first came out. We were at Sam's Club and had not yet made the jump to DVD (it was December '99). This was back when the VHS section still outnumbered the DVD section. I remember seeing the boxset and thinking, "My god, who'd want to pay $250 for THAT?" because all of the titles were already on VHS, and DVD still wasn't as impressive for me yet. And that price was discounted from the actual $360 SRP. The individual titles were no better, they were $40 each.

That's funny, seeing as Blu-Rays cost about that much now, some even less than that! This website I use frequently to order used CD and DVDs off of has an option that if you add a title to your list that's not available either new or used or both, (you have the option to select which) it stays on your list and when it becomes available they notify you through e-mail. ANYWAY, I put the Animated Anthology on my list and I got an e-mail saying it was available used. I went and checked the website, and it was $201.99! That's like $23 per DVD! I was like

Yeah. That used price isn't much better than it was new. I saw it once used at EBGames in my local mall and I believe they even wanted around $200 for it. Honestly, you would probably be better off just tracking down a used LI of Hercules (the disc is exactly the same as the GC). Everything else has been released (or will be released) in a better edition.

It's called spending and collecting.

As long as I am a Disney fan, I would also be happy enough to spend that much money on something like this.

While I have nowhere near all of the DACs, if I had the money, and if it was available, I would buy it.

I remember those days!

I got my first DVD player in early 2000. And I bought a good chunk of my early Disney DVD's used for $8-$15 when they were normally $35-$40 new. I remember seeing that set and thinking that there was no way I was dropping that much money at once.
The same store I used to buy the used DVD's at also had some really expensive used ones if they were considered "rare." I eventually bought The Little Mermaid there for a fairly reasonable price, and six months later it shot up to something like $75.

Today I was in FYE and I saw that they had a used copy of TLK II (the LI), and it was $19.99! I know they have other titles of used LIs like TLM and LATT for $14.99, Mulan for $15.99, and the other titles like TJB are $19.99. I haven't seen Pinocchio, Peter Pan, Hercules, and 101 Dalmatians used there, but I bet they're all pretty pricy, except for Herc, which is probably not too bad considering it's technically still in print, just with different jacket artwork. I do intend on picking up all the LIs or even the Animated Anthology (although I have the LIs of 101D, LATT, PP, and TLM), but even for the individual used copies of the LIs it's insane. There's sometimes that rare occasion where you find used LIs in Gamestop for good prices (I got 101D used two years ago before the PE was confirmed for $9.99!), but that hasn't happened lately.
On a side note, FYE also had the 2003 SE of SB for $24.99 used with slipcover.
You would think since these LIs and the SE of SB have had re-releases with better transfers and actual bonus features they would lower their prices.

Actually, Hercules is fairly pricy in stores. The usual price is around $20-23.

Really? I never would have guessed that because on some FYE-owned websites I have seen it used for around $15.99. I guess next time it pops up used, I'll get it.
