Who did you vote for the election ?

Hey U.S UD members.

I'm not an American, so I envy you for your democracy, but since they're officially going to announce the new president I really wanted to know who did you vote for.

Personally I'd vote for Obama only because he promised to take the U.S troops away from Iraq as there's nothing I want more than peace between Iraq and the U.S.A.

I'm sick and tired of hearing about all those soldiers and civilians who died in that place. :(

In the U.S. it's sometimes regarded as rude to ask who someone voted for. It's supposed to be a secret so that there isn't any tension afterward. It's kind of funny, but a lot of people will put up a front saying they will vote for this person or that person just so that no one will get angry with them, then when they actually go in to vote they vote for someone else.

Personally, I'm not offended at all and am a proud Obama supporter and cast my vote this morning. I live near Philadelphia though, so i can say something like that out loud and not be too afraid that someone will try to jump me. This election is causing a lot of heat and flat out anger in a lot of parts in our country. Even though I feel confident in being able to support whatever I want and not be gudged too harshly i did pass a home-made picket sign on the interstate I take to work that read "Terrorists for Obama".

Overall though, i wouldn't be surprised if many people don't really comment to your question. Sorry!

Puerto Rico doesn't vote on the Presidential elections. We only vote for Governor and Mayor.

But if I were to vote, though... I would have a hard time deciding.

Obama strikes to me as the type of guy that has nothing but hype and novelty behind him. He relies too much on hope and faith and I think that makes him weak in my eyes. Sure he has a lot of followers, but so did Al Gore and John Kerry...

McCain seems like the tried and true American that is likely to hold very tight into his Republican beliefs, and I don't know if the US can stand yet another Republican government.

So color me undecided...

I proudly voted for Obama. I do not want McCain running my country.

I don't follow the news often at all or anything, but I did some homework on the candidates (both local & national candidates), and I do not agree with McCain's policies.

I have agreed with Obama's...I wish he were for gay marriage, though...he would vote No on Proposition 8, though, which made me less upset...

But, yeah, Obama! :)

I also voted for Obama. As did my father and mother. I come from a family of long time Republicans. We have had enough.

I did consider that Singerguy, I have American friends at uni and they told me this, but all of them ended up telling me who they voted for anyway.

What I really admire about Americans is they're freedom to say whatever they felt they had to, it's like the "I would l,ike to know who here is gay" thread in which many people have been honest enough to state their orientation (including me), it was never any of our business to know what anybody's sexual orientation was, but they were brave and honest enough to say it, which is a very respectful quality in a person.

I don't want anyone to debate about Mcain and Obama, people really need to learn how to acknowledge the alternative opinion.
Something Youtube posters will never understand !

I also can't vote in this election (what with being British and also nowhere near the USA at the moment), but I would have to say that if I were American, I'd go for Obama, no question. To be honest, growing up with having George W Bush as the most powerful man in the world hasn't really promoted the Republican party for me as anything all that great at all. Sorry if that offends anyone, but it's my opinion and at the end of the day anyway, I'm a bit of a nobody in that I can't change the world so there's no need to fear me. :P

I voted for Obama via absentee ballot like two weeks ago. Granted, I'm a homo left-wing Godless Clintonista stemming from a family of hardcore liberals, so like no shock there.

Now to get my free ice cream! God bless America!

I voted for Obama as well. Also absentee. However, being from McCain's home state makes my vote worth pretty much nil in the long run.

My family, BTW, are all hardcore Republicans and McCain voters. Where did I come from? Wouldn't you and they both like to know...

If I were of age, I'd definitly vote for Obama. I dislike most of McCain's politics, and definitly don't want to see him or Sarah Palin anywhere near the White House.

For my first presidential election, I chose Obama. I do not want either McCain or Palin anywhere near the White House.

My daughter is like a hardcore Obama supporter. I actually didn't like either of them much. I probably would have voted for McCain if not for Palin. I just found her to be very fake. Where as Obama always seems sincere, and lucid. And I feel Obama understands the people better. He wasn't spoonfed all his life, living rich. He worked very hard to get to where he is now.

No matter which way it goes tonight, I just hope it gets better for myself, my family, and everyone.

I voted for Barack Obama and here is why, (oh and btw this is my first Presidential election that I was able to vote in...

#1 Reason - Mcain's Health care plan sucks....I mean Mcain would give you a $5000 tax credit for health insurance every year and he would tax that 5K ....One Problem with that is....Health Insurance cost more than $5000 a for the typical family...I know I am on my dad's plan and on Disability and it costs $900 a month and the employer only pays $150 of that so we pay $750 a month plus copays for medicine although because I am disabled or something I get medicine usually after May for free before May it is about $2.50 per prescription

#2 People making more than $200,000 or $250,000 are they only people that are going to see a tax increase....one example my family was eligible for that $1200 stimulus check...however our taxes for some reason was $1241 so guess where that Stimulus Check went :P and we still owe $50 for the taxes  Someone has got chip in on decreasing the federal budget deficit I mean who would you rather tax...the person on Medicare or making $50,000 a year or the Family who is getting bonuses from Wall Street....In Reality somehow this deficit has to go down...one start is pull troops out of Iraq.....In My opinion the USA never should have invaded Iraq because Saddam was not the guy responsible for what happened on 9/11...Now I am not saying Saddam was a Great Leader and should be awarded a gold star....however we have yet to find Osama Bin Laden....and there were less terrorists in Iraq before we got there.....but the mission was to find "Weapons of Mass Destruction" not remove dictator Saddam Hussein...I mean it went fine but after Saddam was killed maybe before that....that's when things went south...especially because the "Weapons were not there" and that's all you heard on TV is the catch phrase "Weapons Of Mass Destruction" and Mcain wants to continue the war in Iraq....I realize that he was in Vietnam and was POW however that was then...it was a differ kind of war at a differ time....

#3 - Fun Fact - My Cousin who is in the Army said that in 25 -30 years there will be a President's Day that honors George W. Bush being one of the greatest president's of all time....no Joke that's what he said.....

And he is going to run for President in 2030 so says my cousin...although that's going to be hard to do because there is not Presidential Election in 2030...that would be 2032 not 2030 and keep in mind he is 30 now and is in the Army....

Although My other cousin who is in the Army use to take my sister's barbie dolls and GI Joes and bury them in the back yard at Grandma's house...which makes me wonder....How does 2 brothers who are my cousins get into the army when one thinks W Bush is the best president in History and wants to run for President in 2030 and one who likes to burry Gi Joes and Barbie dolls and burrys them...btw he also use to squish frogs with his shoes....

So...when's that Apocolypse happening? :P

One question if I had the chance to ask Mcain and Obama is similar to Tom Brokav's question...here it is my style.

One of you come November WILL be the President however one of you will go back to being a senator....How would you Support your Opponent as President while being in Congress...

I think it's good that a lot of people on this thread support Obama (so far).

My husband voted for McCain. :( And he voted twice for Bush. :(

I'm an awful wife. When I found out this, I told him that "If I knew you were a Republican, I wouldn't have married you". (He's an Independent, btw.) He asked if I was kidding, and I said "partly" or something...

He and I are both from Massachusetts...My parents are Democrats, and I'm a Democrat...it's not just political affiliation, though...since being in Florida, Bobby has just gotten more conservative, and I've never been conservative. This is getting off-topic now, but ugh.

No offense to any Republicans reading this, btw. I don't hate Republicans or anything...it's just hard being married to someone who has such different views from mine.

Well since you asked...

All four members of my immediate family voted Barack Obama. This includes two former republicans, an independent (me) and a first-time voter.

Ugh. Stupid Florida. Sure, this could've happened anywhere, but he should've gone to jail for doing this, right? :x :(

I would have to agree with you Amy, what that man did was very wrong, The least they can do to people who try to purposely prevent someone from voting is fine them.

This is a little off-topic but I think this is an amazing and ironicaly persuasive video on voting with Celebrities !

***Important Update***

So, earlier I wrote that Bobby voted for McCain. The last I knew, Bobby intended to vote for McCain. He just came home, and he said that he voted for Chuck Baldwin.

I am a happier person.

I just wanted to clear his name a little and make an apology here.

:)

It's still not a vote for Obama, but it is a vote against McCain. Good job, Bobby! I apologize!
