DVDSpot to close... where to go now?

On Wednesday October 15th DVDSpot will be closed permanently. This decision was made to allow us to focus on other great web properties. We sincerely appreciate everyone's contribution to the DVDSpot community and hope you enjoyed the free services it provided. We understand many people will not want to lose their personal collection data, so we remind you that you can export that data to file by going to Membership Tools while logged in and clicking the Export to File button. This will create a file with all movies in your Owned and Watched lists. Also keep in mind the editor system for approving DVD additions and edits has been disabled, so no new or edited DVDs will be added.
This is horrible news. DVDSpot was the best free service in my opinion. I guess I'll move my collection over to DVDAF, although I have thought about DVD Profiler (although to post your collection online you have to buy the program).

I know there are a lot of DVDSpot members here at UD. Just wondering where everyone was planning to move their online collections too, and if there was anything else other than DVDAF that's free.

Well, that completely sucks. I bet Bill will be the one most angered, as he has a LOT of DVDs.

:headshake: I guess I'll be moving to Af.

Well, I also have recorded my collection on Microsoft Works, so at least that's a compensation for me. But that site is so much fun; I'm really upset about this news :(

What are the websites of other free sites?

http://www.dvdaf.com

That's the only other one I know of besides DVDSpot. I've had dvdaf since about 2004 or so, but I also keep various lists on my own computer.

As a regular member of The Digital Video Forums, I will add a site that was made by the admin of DVF:

www.dvdloc8.com

I use that site (though I haven't updated my profile in a year or so, LOL)... it has regions 1, 2, and 4 and you can add whatever you want (and if you do so, it goes to a board to be verified)

This is really bad news. I really don't look forward to going elsewhere. It took quite a while when guzzlefish closed up to get everything on dvdspot. I am really bummed.

I actually started out using DVDspot a few years ago, but then moved to DVDAF, it's just fine lol.

and here's what it looks like for your actual collection: http://rexcrk.dvdaf.com/owned [/shamless plug to get people to check out my collection :P ]

No no no no no no no no no. I liked to see how much I spent on the DVDs and comparing to the retail value of my DVDs. I liked thinking to myself "Wow, I've saved $5,000 on DVDs so far!"

Just like when Guzzlefish got bought out, Croy sold DVDspot and goodbye.

I'm pretty sure DVDLoc8 has the MSRP on all their DVDs... and that would mean you could add them up.

Seriously, guys, try it out!

How long does it take dvdloc8 to list a dvd? I opened an account and got to my 2nd dvd 101 Dalmatians (1996) & found that the recent release is not there yet.

As far as I know, most of it is updated entirely by the members.

If you give it an Amazon product ID and a DVDEmpire one it'll cross-reference and make an entry. You'll get points for submitting it, and within a couple days it'll be on there. (The top 3 point earners per month get cool prizes)

So apparently the people who use DVDLoc8 aren't big Disney fans... some movies like Iron Man are on there already LOL

I am really at a loss right now, but thankfully I have everyone of my DVD's, including the one's that I have recorded myself on DVD+RW or DVD+R all listed on Microsoft Word in a very nice spread sheet. Granted I don't know what the comparison in prices - MSRP and what I paid would be - but other than that I can pull up any movie by its star or its director.

And what few 'foolscreen' DVD's I have, I have segregated in a seperate folder. Those I will replace as I can.

I am going to miss DVD Spot, but I will get along nicely without it.

:D

I am not really mad about dvdspot closing. I guess I can just go back to using DVDAF.

I've moved my collection back to DVDAF. I haven't entered all my price information like I had on DVDSpot, and I might not.

I think I'm going to make a Spreadsheet with all the information.
