The blu-ray screen caps look very sharp indeed.

But everything looks so flat!
There isn't much charm left to the movie anymore.
Things are too sharp and the whole "natural look" is gone.
It looks so unbelievably flat, crisp, empty, sharp and dead, I can't believe it. Sometimes I take a wonderful picture of a beautiful landscape or a face.
It looks perfectly clear, sharp, alive and natural. When I upload it to my computer I will try to make it look even better with things as saturation, brightness etc. When I put the sharpness up to the maximum, it loses everything, it's charm, the realistic look, the warmth, it looks dead, but everything DOES look sharper. Too sharp. That's what happened here too.
I love the format and I think it's great for live action films, but I honestly believe that it doesn't do animated films any good.

I feel that the movie should be much more detailed if it's presented on a format like this.

It seems like what I was afraid for has come true, there is only so much you can do with animated movies and high defenition on an animated film is not a good thing.

Let's hope this screenshots make it look worse than it really is.
It's hard to believe they would actually let this happen to the classic so let's wait and see.
The strange thing is, with the Peter Pan dvd's it was exactly the opposite.
The new dvd looked less sharp, but warmer and better.
The old dvd looked extremely sharp but flat and dead.

So let's wait for the actual film and not judge too early.

Umm...what? First you complain that it's too sharp, then you complain that it's not detailed enough? You do know that the goal of the animators was to make everything razor sharp and in focus, right? It's a stylistic choice, and this Blu-Ray will be the first time we can really appreciate that outside of a theater.

What I'm saying is that making the animated classics high defenition isn't really working and the film is losing all it's charm.
I'm absolutely sure that it has never looked this flat, empty and overly sharp in theatres.

But then again, maybe it's just the screenshots.
They look like the first Peter Pan dvd edition while the latest peter Pan dvd edition actually looked less sharp, better, and warmer, so it must be weird if Sleeping beauty actually doesn't.

And have you ever really compared the quality of an animated film in a theatre? It's projected and the sharpness can never be compared to that of the image on a hd tv or blu-ray disc.

I did this and got the lithographs, which are pretty sweet i might add.

i didn't get the blu-ray but i go the DVD, it cost me $19.98 (without tax)

I'm pretty sure the blu-ray was either 5 or 10 more

You do know that when you're watching this on your TV, the image will be blown up and you won't be sitting with your eyes glued to the screen.

It'll be "softer", which to you (and me!) means "less flat" and "warmer".

I agree with you that comparing computer screenshots of the new DVD and Blu-ray of SB, the DVD version seems "warmer". But that's because we're looking at them on computer screens which are much smaller than TV screens. It's like how you're saying we can't compare DVDs to theatre. You can't compare watching a film on your tv set to screenshots on a computer.

Anyhow, the Blu-ray will come with the DVD as well so buy it, watch both, pick your favourite and just keep watching that version!

Anyhow, it's just amazing how much detail was missing due to the limited capacity of the DVD. Faces are no longer black blurs, but eyelashes, lips, noses, pupils. It kinda reveals the silly faces the animators quickly drew on thinking no one will ever see it, only for it to finally be released in HD and with a pause button

Marky, you can't judge how these films look in HD without actually looking at them on a hD display. I also felt that the colours felt to forced, strong and warm at fist by just looking at screencaps on a standard definition screen (TV or computer) but having juts now watched the Sleeping Beauty Blu-ray trailer on the Nightmare Blu-ray disc (which looks crazy good BTW) I feel completely different. Complaints about backgrounds looking too green? They don't hold up, the picture still retains it's bluish cool feel and the sharpness does not look artificial at all. Comparing it to the old DVD which looks kind of dull on an HD set it appears the new restoration simply enhances the colours without ruing the previous look or "feel" of the 1997 restoration work. Yes the Blu-ray screencaps may look a little jarring at firs to anyone who has grown accustomed to viewing a specific print of the film for x number of years, but I have a feeling I'll really enjoy watching this on my brother's laptop.

Now as for the unnecessary new aspect ratio....

Anyway, regarding the caps, I'm simply floored by them, especially the level of detail. For example, in this one: click here

I've never noticed the little patterns on the grass before, how intricately drawn the straw on the roof actually is, or all the little cracks on the building itself. Unfortunately, now you can see a slight blurriness on the window that's about to open compared to the rest of the background...

The new caps have gotten me excited for the blu-ray release. Like Escapay, I'm simply stunned by the level of details.

I was totally considering that, but I don't play video games, and if it's that rare occasion that I do, it's always a Nintendo console. I have a Gamecube in my room, a Wii downstairs, and my N64 in a bag in my crawl space that's connected to my room.

I have a Sony Blu-Ray player, and I'm in LOVE with it. It's cheaper than the PS3, and I used my friends Target discount because his dad works there.

PS: I LOVE the Sleeping Beauty Blu-Ray package!! How did you get one already?! I was afraid I wouldn't like it, but I LOVE it. Which one did you get? The 3-Disc digital copy one? Or the regular 2-Disc one? I hope all of the other platinums are going to be in packaging like that!

so, today i realized it was only a week and a half away from this release and I got really excited! I'm going to have to get a blu-ray player really soon because the pics that jrboy took are amazing!!!!!!!
