No more DVD chapter inserts! Disney discontinued them!

You got to be kidding me right? I mean save the trees! stop the slipcovers! You know how many inserts you can make with one slipcover?

This really stinks!

Disney did this to focus more on Blu-ray releases.

Eh? Source?

Even for high profile releases like Platinum Editions?

Where did you read this? Or did you just realize that none of your recent purchases have had inserts?

Buena Vista (parent company of Disney, Miramax, etc.) has quietly decided to drop the inclusion of inserts in its DVD cases. Thus, you won't see inserts (which usually have printed chapter listings) for titles like 'Equilibrium', '25th Hour', 'The Hot Chick', etc...there's a strong possibility that not even BV's two-disc sets will have inserts in the future.
Here is the article (sorta) that I think Matt's referencing to..

I had to do some digging on the net but I found the article....on a differ forum

http://www.dvdtown.com/messageboard/topic/527/3/0

and apparently doing some more digging (searching yahoo)other studios such as Paramount are doing this as well....

But that article is from 2003...

I dunno, it wouldn't surprise me. Most studios seem to have stopped caring about the inserts anyways. Why should Disney be any different?

As long as the PEs have them I don't care about the rest to be honest.

I get hardly any in my Disney DVDs, other than the big releases. In fact, I'm lucky to even find them :(

So it just means no chapter inserts, right? There will still be those advertisement booklets?

I'll wait for, you know, an article written in the last three years before I say anything.

I spoke with someone from the consumer relations 1800 number. I called today to get the rebate packs, and I asked about the jungle book 2 special edition. She told me that there wasn't one and that they won't be making anymore from here on in. They are focusing more on Blu-ray. :(

When do you actually use them anyhow?

Agreed, yukitora. The most we get out of a chapter insert is when we open the case to pull the disc out and we see it lying there and we get this feeling of non-cheapness.

It's great to see Disney print the Scene Selection on the back of the cover for Blu-Ray and enables you to see it from the inside of the case!

We never got them in R2 anyway. We only get a little promotional booklet thing with Autumn Platinum Editions.

So are we (We get the baiscly the same DVDs as you do,but without inserts and trailers for other films).
Did you bought a R1 DVD?.

Like Widdi said, I hardly see chapter inserts in any DVDs that I buy nowadays. Who really cares? They don't serve any purpose. One side usually shows a list of the chapters (which you can see on the chapter menus) and the other side usually just shows the same picture that's on the cover. It's kind of a waste of paper and ink if you ask me.

I find Chapter Inserts useful. I used them with AB and I wished I could have used it with Thoroughly Modern Millie (which is not a Disney release). I understand if you think slipcovers are useless, but chapter inserts aren't. I don't want to interrupt my movie to go to the Chapter Selection screen...

I actually like those chapter inserts... and I hate how everyone's stopping that these days.

I mean, trees are a renewable resource! So is water! So I also hate those hotels that say "help us save the world by not using as much water!" That's total BS... all it saves them is money. We haven't gained or lost water in millions of years, regardless of what Democrats say.

There are specific "paper factories" where they plant tons of trees for the sole purpose of making paper... it's not like those paper chapter inserts are really that wasteful. And anyone who says wasting paper is bad for the environment should be shot... unlike plastic, paper is an actually decomposable resource that doesn't hurt the environment at all.

Anyway, yeah, I think companies are just trying to save on production costs. Seriously, stop with all the advertising, Disney! I've seen about 20 ads for Sleeping Beauty PE in the past few days and I GET THE MESSAGE ALREADY! I swear, if I see any more of those I will intentionally NOT buy it because it's so ANNOYING! They could easily save money by not advertising so fricking much and still give us the paper inserts that probably cost far less than commercial time.

I dont mind that we do not have these chapter inserts anymore. They dont really do anything and the can get lost quite easily.
