This box containing 20 of Disney's animated classics plus 2 limited lithographs is released in Denmark on 11/11 2008.

It has Dolby Digital 5.1 Danish, Norwegian and English audiotracks and Danish, Swedish, Norwegian and English subtitles.

Gorgeous set. I hate to think how much a set like that would set you back-probably far more than I could ever spare for the festive season.

The retail price is €198...

It's a beautiful set! I've noticed that the UK have been doing something similar recently, only with less in a box. They have a pink one with Disney movies aimed for girls, a blue one aimed for boys and a green one too.

Since when are Dumbo and Lilo & Stitch aimed at primarily girls?!?! I mean, the other movies shown have girl leads, but those two?!?

As for the Denmark boxset, it seems to me that those titles were selected because they either have new editions out or might in the near future...?

I don't know to be honest, maybe Disney thought they'd appeal more to girls as suppose to boys hence why they put it in a pink box as suppose to a blue. It's all down to marketing at the end of the day. If you put a blue box and pink box in front of a little boy he's much more likely to go for the blue and vice versa for a girl. Disney market their stuff at kids, which is most probably why more mature fans like us never get beautiful artwork on the covers of platinum editions as suppose to the cartoonish clip art they put on it instead (with the exception of a few countries of course). I know it's cliché but pink is considered more of a girly colour and blue is more of a boyish. I guess when I said in my previous post that the films themselves were aimed at a certain gender type I was wrong and should have made it clear that it's more to do with the packaging. I know that sounds so stupid but it is somewhat true. I mean, if you put anything pink in front of my little cousin she'll go crazy and want it regardless of the contents inside, whereas I couldn't careless if it were orange, purple, yellow...whatever (you get the idea) all I care about is the content. Kids are like that, they'll choose something just based on their favourite colour

I think it's simpler than that. I've noticed that this set contains none of the fifteen platinum edition DVDs.

So, if we look at the Disney Classics up to #43, Brother Bear (Dinosaur is not considered a Disney Classic in Europe), there are 23 movies missing. These are:
- The 15 Platinum movies (Snow White, Pinocchio, Fantasia, Cinderella, Peter Pan, Lady and the Tramp, Sleeping Beauty, 101 Dalmatians, The Jungle Book, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King and Fantasia 2000)
- The 6 "compilation movies" (Saludos Amigos, The Three Caballeros, Make Mine Music, Fun and Fancy Free, Melody Time and Ichabod and Mr. Toad)
- The Fox and the Hound
- Atlantis: The Lost Empire

It makes sense to skip all the platinum movies, as they're more than popular enough on their own. Skipping the compilation movies also makes sense, as they're not really that popular. Also, a boxset containing 5 of the compilation movies (all except Fun and Fancy Free) was released a few years ago.

So they've basically left out the 15 most popular and the 6 least popular movies. That leaves the Fox and the Hound and Atlantis. Why these two were left out seems a bit more random. I'm sure they could have expanded it to 22 movies without adding too much to the price. 20 is a nice and round number, though, and for all I know these movies could be the 7th and 8th least popular movies. If so, that would mean that the set simply contains the 20 most popular non-platinum animated Disney classics.

I adore my Japanese boxset! It's one of my most treasure possessions! It may have a cost me a small fortune but I don't care! It was worth it!

Wow! That set looks fantastic!

Too bad it's out of print (and thus horribly expensive). If this set was released over here, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Just a question because I'm ignorant: If that's a Japanese set, why is all the text in English?

Maybe it's because they decided to use the original movie posters for the artwork and they wanted to appeal to a wider audience. However, the back cover of each DVD is in Japanese, as are the menus.

wow, the Japanese box looks really classy (for classics).
I like the design a lot, also the artwork looks simply great. The idea for using the original artworks for the cover is great too imo.
