While looking for the infamous animated character appearances I found the next best thing...ORIGINAL PERFORMANCES OF THE NOMINATED DISNEY SONGS!

These are a gem. if you are like me, you were too young to appreciate the Oscars, or were born after the awards were shown, so seeing these Oscar performances of Disney songs are great and a must for any Disney music fan like me.

A YouTube user has collected many of the performances and many of them are fantastic. Here they are:

"Under the sea" performed by Geoffrey Holder
"Friend like me" performed by Nell Carter
"A whole new world" performed by Brand Kane and Lea Salonga
"Belle" performed by Paige O' Hara and Richard White
"Be Our Guest" performed by Jerry Orbach
"Beauty and the Beast" performed by Angela Landsbury, Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson
"When somebody loved me" by Sarah McLaughlin
"You'll be in my heart" performed by Phil Collins
"Go the distance" performed by Michael Bolton (NOTE: The video starts with Aaliyah's performance of "Journey to the past". Michael Bolton follows her

Hope you guys enjoy it! :)

I've seen several of these performances before on TV (back in the good days, when BBC used to broadcast the Oscar ceremony)
Watched several now on Youtube and really love Jerry Orbach's performance of "Be our Guest"! :)

Thanks!

This is the kind of stuff that should go on the DVDs. Not crappy butcherings by Disney Channel hacks. I especially love the one for "A Whole New World".

BTW, pap, it's Brad Kane, not Brand Kane. ;)

Hell yeah!

I've always wondered why studios don't include Oscar moments as part of their bonus features. These performances, for example, would make GREAT extras for fans that missed it or were too young to see it. Its part of a film's legacy and great reference for Oscar fans.

Does the Academy have a tight grip on its shows? It looks that way as you can't find Oscar footage on YouTube (I found these by sheer luck). Do studios have to pay a royalty for every DVD that has the clip on it?

And no, the real name is Brand Kane, not Brad. He's just been misspelling it all this time ;) :D :p .

I liked the Whole New World one but is it just me or did Lea sound a little off during the middle part of the song?

The Belle one was rather odd especially at 2:05-2:08 I believe.

Beauty and the Beast was good as well, did not care for Peabo Bryson and Celine singing it as well even though it did sound good (just have a weird hate for both of them)

Also despite not being Disney I loved the Journey To Past song (RIP Aaliyah)

Weird indeed. :o But I agree that it was strange for them to be singing along with Lansbury, as the duet and the film version are entirely different takes on the song. And I have to say I prefer Lansbury (but I have a strange love for everything touched by her, anyway).

Awesome finds, pap64! I didn't start watching the Oscars until 1997 or so, so I missed most of these when they aired. I especially love the presentation for "A Whole New World." These are definitely the kinds of things I'd love to see on DVDs/BDs. It seems the only DVDs/BDs nowadays that include Oscar footage are the big Best Picture winners, and not even all of them contain that. Well, there's always the future BD releases, though I'm not holding my breath.

I remember watching the Oscars at my aunt's house, when they did the "Whole New World." I was like 8, and I remember being in total awe :tlm:
