I know, I know..it's WAY too early to be even thinking about having a thread like this, but I cannot contain my excitement!

I have never seen Fantasia 2000, and haven't even seen Fantasia in it's entirity. (I've seen Sorceror's Apprentice, and the first half of the film.). I actually think I'll keep it that way until the two PE's come out, so I'll be able to appreciate them more once I finally get the chance to watch them.

Anyone else extremely excited??

I am. I can't wait to see the Blu-Ray release.

I am very excited for this release. I haven’t owned Fantasia since it was available on the Black Diamond Classic Collection VHS tapes. That was the last time I saw the film as well. I’ve never seen Fantasia 2000, so I’m very happy that both will be released soon. These films are going to look spectacular in HD. It’s going to be a great few years for us Disney fanatics.

Although I LOVED fantasia 2000 the first time I saw it, I don't think I can be too excited to see it being re-released.

and although I could BARELY sit through fantasia the first time round, I think I can get quite excited over seeing it in High Definition. It's one of Walt's most wonderfully animated films, full of brush strokes, rainbows of shades on a single piece of cloth, just so stunning. It is just so organic compared to the flat look we got starting with Cinderella (although I must admit, the 50s, starting with Cinderella and ending with Sleeping Beauty is my fave era animation and visual-wise). I know just being able to see everything in detail is going to be a wonderful experience.

I'm also really curious to see what they're gonna do with the sunflower scenes. I'm really hoping they can pop them back in, but that wouldn't do their image very well.

Fantasia is a great film and there's a lot to love about it, but I think I like Fantasia 2000 much more. It's incredible. I'm so happy to hear that both films will be out on blu-ray. Perfect choices for hi-def !

I wasn't aware that they had edited Fantasia in recent years. That's really too bad. What parts were edited?

Well, the Anthology collection claims it's "uncut" but they lost some of the audios for a few scenes, so they had to use someone else's voice for said scenes. And in "The Pastoral Symphony", a "racial stereotype" has been edited out.

I'm super stoked for these releases (I'm hoping they are separate) as I have really grown to love both movies in the past year. Before then I couldn't sit through either but now I pop the VHS tapes in at least once every two months and am amazed more and more each time.

It's unfortunate that some of Deem Taylor's audio had been lost, but I don't feel it's appropriate to label Corey Burton's replacement audio as a "cut" since it was the only real choice they had to restore the film to the original version as closely as possible.

On the other hand, the company did choose to delete any shots of Sunflower, and although they did a better job this last time around at the edits than they have in the past, I don't feel it's appropriate for the DVD to claim that the film is "uncut."

I've actually never seen either of the Fantasia films. I had been holding off thinking Fantasia's Platinum Edition release would hit store long before Spring 2010. Guess I'll still be waiting a while. I will be glad to add both films to my collection though, even though I haven't seen either of them.

The collaboration between these two legendary artists will be available to own for the first time along with an all-new feature-length documentary that examines the surprising partnership between Dali and Disney. So will Destino be included as a bonus feature in the Fantasia Platinum Edition, or have a seperate release? I'm hoping it's the latter.

I'm guessing Destino will be the star of its own set. While I'm basing this opinion on the old inserts included with the True Life Adventures, the Oswald set they did advertise there was eventually released as its own package (just as a "Treasures" set instead of the implied TLA-like "Legacy" packaging).

Same here. I rented Fantasia when I was a kid on VHS, not knowing it was all music (I got excited because Mickey was on the cover so I thought it was a movie all about him). I put it in and i realized it was all music, and I was like "Aww, man this is SO STUPID!" and I turned it off after the "Dance of the Reed Flutes" sequence. Now I realize that Fantasia wasn't lame, and that I should give it another chance (despite not being able to find a copy on DVD). I guess that will make the PE even more special for me!

count me in the excited list! I owned Fantasia as a kid on VHS and I remember liking all the pretty colors (haha, no lie!)

I'm not that excited, because I can guarantee you it will still have the black centaurs edited out, and it won't have Deems Taylor's voice.

If you ask me, the best way to do it would be to give the viewer a choice: View the entire film with the re-recorded voice (so that it sounds seamless), or to have Deems Taylor's voice for the segments that exist, and the re-recorded voice for the others.

And chances are, the quality won't be any better than the set that was already released. I might rent it for curiosity, but unless it's 100% the original (or more like 99% since they lost Deems Taylor's narration for some parts), I'm really not interested.

I'm so excited now to finally hear Fantasia is coming up in the line-up! I don't have the Fantasia anthology (only the 60th anniversary single DVD), and can't wait to see Destino and the feature length documentary on Dali and Disney. I'm happy to now have confirmation that Fantasia is getting the Platinum treatment, since it's one of my top favorite Disney films, especially the segments Night on Bald Mountain, Ave Maria, and the Pastoral Symphony. And you can probably guess why the latter is one of my favorites.

In a rare instance on my part I can understand why they've gone the direction they have, but I also agree it would be nice to have the option to hear Deem in the parts that haven't been lost.

I feel it would be great to have the option to play an unedited version of the pastoral sequence on its own as a bonus feature, possibly with a featurette preceding it in order to appease those worried about political correctness.

I wouldn't say so for most material Disney has cut from their films and I am in no way condoning the habit, but in this case I could potentially see a lot of people complaining about not only Sunflower's role, but especially her character design had she been left in the original film in tact.

From reading the press release, it sounds like Fantasia and Fantasia 2000 will each have their own DVD set. Which makes sense, since they both are feature-lengthed animated classics with a lot of backstory behind each.

I do hope that Destino gets its own DVD set, because I have been waiting for sooo long for it and am really bummed that it's not coming out in November.

I don't have the Fantasia Anthology, just the 2 single DVDs, but I have watched a lot of the Anthology disc, and it's wonderful. I might eventually just buy the single disc online (I've seen it on Amazon or Half.com by itself)...I really won't know if I'll double-dip until I read what the new bonus features will be. Do any of you think that the majority of the Fantasia Anthology bonus features will be ported over?

My brother actually sent me his copies of Fantasia and Fantasia 2000, and I don't want to hurt his feelings by selling them and getting the new versions...I'm torn.

I'm so pleased that Fantasia will be comin to Platinum, even though I wish 2008 was Pinocchio/Fantasia. I wonder which verison they'll use for the Platinum. My guess is we'll see the 60th aniversary verison or the 1990 editon. Can't wait for the press release for this film, Fantasia defintly deserves the Platinum title.

Why would they go back to the 1990 version?
