We've been getting a ton of e-mails lately, as our readers notice that popular old Nickelodeon series suddenly have a ton of pre-orders available at Amazon for seasons sets, or "best of season" multi-disc releases. But they're really odd, because the release dates shown are on Fridays (the usual release date for most retail DVDs will almost always be on a Tuesday), and the availability dates are really REALLY soon...like in a few weeks, with no real advance notice such as retail releases usually get. What's going on?

We've been in touch with Amazon and found out that these titles are all part of Amazon's "CreateSpace" program, which is essentially a "burn-on-demand" system that they own (you can read more about it <a href="http://www.createspace.com/Products/DVDOnDemand.jsp" target="cs">here</a>). The "availability dates" are essentially the first dates in which Amazon is allowed to offer the product, and from there they wait until an order comes in, then burn the product onto DVD-Rs, laser-print off a box insert, assemble the product in a standard DVD case and ship it off to you.

The folks at Amazon have struck an exclusive deal with Nickelodeon and Paramount to offer these titles, along with some other ones to be named later, as CreateSpace products. They are NOT retail releases, and will not be offered in stores. Amazon also is going to have some Comedy Central product under this program as well, but at this time the only items offered are not strictly TV shows, but rather are comedy performances called "<i>Comedy Central's Stand Up Picks</i>" (there will be six parts to that series of releases). Here are the Nickelodeon titles being offered in this program shortly:

That list covers all that we know about these releases; we're sorry but we cannot supply any further information about them (so please don't e-mail us to ask!).

Since these are burn-on-demand items, and not standard releases, we will not be covering them among our regular items here at TVShowsOnDVD. That has been our site policy since covering the earliest of these kind of releases, back in 2002. Therefore, we will NOT be listing the above products as releases at the site, nor following up with further news reports about them, or any similar product. If these titles get standard retail releases in the future, we will of course let you know, and cover that product normally.

Hmm. I wouldn't mind getting "Doug", "Hey, Arnold!", "Rocko's Modern Life", and "Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide". But on-demand DVD-R's? I'd rather wait for a retail release.

I wouldn't mind Jimmy Neutron, Drake and Josh, Ned's Declassified, etc.

While I have no problem burning DVDs myself, I question the quality of these... if they're any good I might look into them, but of course, I could just use my DVD recorder and make my own season box sets off the air.

If there's no limit to how many you can burn, I can see a small piracy ring starting

I want them all. I just don't know about the DVD-Rs... that bothers me. I want a retail release, but what bothers me more is thinking that if more people think like me, not buying them, then we will never see retail releases... :(

I would buy season sets (not "best of's" ) of Rocko, AAHH!! Real Monsters, Rugrats (seasons 1-3 of course  ), Hey Arnold!, and Doug.

However I'd much rather wait and get them at retail, if they ever offer them at retail >_>

Has anyone bought these? I'm interested to see what the quality (both of the package and the actual episodes) is.

Is this the only way Season 2 of Zoey 101 will be released? Season 1 is on my newly-made list of TV-On-DVD to buy, and I'd rather have a retail version of Season 2 to match Season 1.

Hmmm...okay, I just read the CreateSpace description, and the cases & DVDs do have full-color art, so maybe it's not so bad...?

At least these shows are getting DVD releases, right? It's definitely better than nothing!

As much as I pine for the Nickelodeon Doug I wouldn't pay that much money for DVD-Rs. It really is a shame that Nick won't get an the stick and officially release it themselves.

I wish I had known about this before I bought the whole first season of Doug on iTunes. Nickelodeon just released a bunch of old shows on there as well, some are in season sets and some are in "best of" groups. They even have Hey Dude and Aaaagh! Real Monsters. Unfortunately, no Salute Your Shorts. Oh well, maybe I will get Doug Season 2 through Amazon when I have more money. Fall is bad for me because so many season sets get released and I have a problem not buying them. I spent all my free time this week catching up on Smallville Season 7.

Hey that's what right now goofystitch! I still have like 7 episodes left and have no idea how I am going to finish them before the premier on Thursday. Ohh and I have been praying for old nicktoons to come to dvd. I might just have to get these cause Hey Arnold is the bomb as us 90s kids would say.

I've been buying these lately... I was in need of a major nostalgia fix after playing ToeJam and Earl on Sega Genesis and remembering the days of my childhood watching these old shows haha.

So far I have Doug seasons 1 and 2, Rugrats season 2, and Hey Arnold season 1. I'm going to keep getting them the quality is awesome and they play just fine on my Blu-ray player.

As much I like old Nickelodeon shows I am not buying these DVD-Rs disc. Hopefully Nick release them properly like Cartoon Network's Hall of Fame shows (Johnny Bravo & Courage the Cowardly Dog). Anyways here are 2 new awesome shows to own from Amazon's CreateSpace.

The Angry Beavers: The Best of Season 1 (3-Discs)

The Wild Thornberrys: Season 1 (4-Discs)
