First Same-Sex Couple Legally Wed at Disneyland

Jennifer at Broke Hoedown reports on an email she received from the first same-sex couple to be legally married at the Disneyland Resort. Sarah and Robyn were married on August 2nd at the Disneyland Hotel in a the beautiful setting of the garden gazebo. Photographer Chenin Boutwell captured the happy couple’s ceremony and has made it available on her blog: http://boutwellstudio.com/blog/?p=404 . Chenin’s photos are truly gorgeous, and the couple equally handsome and stunning.

I’m very happy to see the State of California and the Disneyland Resort recognizing the rights of all couples to marry legally. My wife and I were the first to be married in the El Capital Presidential suite at the Grand Californian and it was a magical experience and a great way to set off on our life’s adventure. I wish Sarah and Robyn a long and happy adventure of their own.

Oh well, there's always WDW. But unfortunately that's in the south and Hell hasn't frozen over just quite yet. And the "Commitment Ceremony" thing just doesn't cut it for me personally.

It looked like such a beautiful ceremony. I hope there'll be more same sex couples marry at Disney in the future.

OK, I admire the Disney administration for having the guts to allow a same sex wedding at Disneyland even when its "cool" to "diss the gays".

It proves that "When you wish upon a star it makes no difference who you are" doesn't have a double standard .

(No disrespect towards any gay members. What I mean is that everyone joins the "gay hate" bandwagon simply because someone said so (usually a politician). I admire that Disney was not one of them)

Of course not! Gay weddings just mean more $$$$ for Disney. And DL and WDW are already very gay friendly places to begin with. So much so that I remember reading about people/groups boycotting the place. Oh well, one less person in line to worry about.

I am glad to see that Disney is allowing same sex marriage in thier park. I mean we are all humans we all love, why should people be left out because of who they love.

Twice I've been to WDW during the annual unofficial "Gay Days" and had a blast. I wish I'd taken more photos...it's been 13 years since the first such visit, but I can still vividly recall an image from near the entrance to the Magic Kingdom---a dour dowager with lemon-pursed lips and a picket sign glaring defiantly at some happy queen in full pixie drag and body makeup. Tres amusant.

Sadly, no---just an image burned indelibly into my brain.

I'm happy for them. My fingers are crossed that their marriage stays legal in November. The pictures were gorgeous. I was there a few days after their wedding (I stayed at The Disneyland Hotel).
