Finally, all the Hal Roach talking shorts from the 1929-1938 era is coming to DVD in an
AUTHORIZED, real DVD set. The shorts will probably be the true uncut prints that were available on VHS in the 1990s. The packaging reveals "Remastered, Restored, and Uncut."
After this release, maybe Warner Bros will plan to release their own DVD set of the Our Gang shorts from the 1938-1944 WWII era. But in the meantime, Laughsmith Entertainment is working on this release:
32 beautifully restored shorts from the 1922-1929 era. I can't wait for this one either! It's exciting. The Little Rascals are making their big home video comeback.

WHOA!!!!
I was just watching my Hallmark DVDs the other day and was wondering if there'd ever release a boxed set like this, especially considering the new Three Stooges sets that seem to be doing so well. I was on Amazon the other week and saw that the Hallmark discs were OOP with used copies selling for around $40. I was wondering whether or not I should hold on to them, not knowing if I'd ever see another release of those particular shorts ever again.
I can't waith for this set.

Count me in! I LOVE the Little Rascals especially young Spanky and Buckwheat when he used to wear the dress!

Great news indeed!
I was trying to burn a copy of my Cabin Fever dvds for a friend, since they have been long out of print, but this is much better.

WOOT!
I just picked up a set of The Little Rascals Complete Collection for 24 bucks!
Well, it was used, and Hastings had a Buy 1 Used Get 1 Used for $1 sale, and Little Rascals was 46.99, while I got The Harold Lloyd Comedy Collection for the $1 set (also marked 46.99, and still sealed!)
I wonder if that set of silent Our Gang shorts will ever come out from Laughsmith Entertainment. It looks like EVERY DVD they put out is OOP.
It kind of sucks, because I was wanting to get the Industrial Strength Keaton set, and Amazon sellers are pushing $100 bucks for it now.
The Fatty Arbuckle set would have been nice, as well - although I think most, if not all, of the films are available elsewhere, maybe from Kino?
Heck, I would have liked the Stooges: The Men Behind the Mayhem documentary, as well.

I have that first set pictured. When was the second one set to come out?
Anyways, I love that first set. It got a ton of negative reviews on Amazon because the Cabin Fever releases were much better quality, but I still found this one totally worth purchasing. Hours of hilarious entertainment (though I am keeping the few Cabin Fever DVDs I have too)!

I'm on Disc 2. Just watched Teacher's Pet with the commentary. I watch 2 shorts a week.

My faves are Wheezer and Stimey, and the gang from that period and a bit before, including when Spanky was a baby. Basically, the talking stuff up to very early Alfalfa, ha, but especially when Stimey was younger and Jackie, Dorothy, and Wheezer were the main ones. Around "Helping Grandma" was the best period, in my opinion.

I loved that period too. Mary had some funny double takes! I don't care for the 40s ones with Mickey, Froggy, a fat Spanky and I LOATHED Janet. I DO like the one where Froggy dresses in drag and has to set off his own pranks on himself to protect the gang.

I read all the reviews, there were some negative ones, and the title card/16 mm negatives/edits on 2 shorts ARE bad, however, as many said, the title card/bad quality shorts are only about 16 out of 80, the two edits are very small (but regrettable) and most of the set is in pretty good shape.
I have the Cabin Fever DVDs, and I was going to give them to someone, but I think I'll hang on to them for a while. However, I certainly don't regret getting the Complete Collection, especially for 24 bucks.
I've heard there is some sort of legal wrangling going on with the Our Gang set from Laughingsmith, either that, or a problem with their distributor... Maybe once that gets cleared up, we'll see the Our Gang silent set, and maybe even the other Laughingsmith titles will be re-released.
