Princess and the Frog Ad Campaign

Now as we all know Disney is sometimes brilliant in it's marketing of upcoming films. Check Wall-E for example. Trailers were out for that almost a year before it's release. And Disney has also been extremely dumb in it's marketing, aka not releasing a trailer for Pirates of the Carribbean: At World's End until just a little under 2 months til it's too early release date and yet expected it to beat out the two other three-quels of the summer. So with the Princess and the Frog releasing NEXT Christmas do you think Disney will be wise and attach a 90's Disney-eque ... 20 years ago they brought you under the sea with the Little Mermaid, they took you to a Whole New World in Aladdin and Invited you to be their Guest in Beauty and the Beast... Now Disney returns... It's first traditional animation film in ____ years.... or something along those lines with just a bit of music and such and attach it to Bedtime Stories this Christmas? Or will the be dumb and not release anything until summer?

Don't you think it's a bit too early? Let's wait until Bolt comes out.

I think they need to market the Sleeping Beauty Platinum Edition first, then got to the Princess And The Frog.

Promoting a DVD is way different than promoting an actual theatrical release. I do think its a little too early for promoting this movie though, but by Bolt we might have a teaser.

But it's also a Disney Princess movie and the Sleeping Beauty DVD is next.
Didn't Enchanted got a trailer only in May/April 2007? (But I think that the Princess and the Frog will get more promotion because of the first black Princess, and Disney are back to fully hand drawn animation).
We might get a teaser in Bolt,or maybe even the Sleeping Beauty PE.

It doesn't matter if it is a princess movie; the thing is that Princess and The Frog will get promotion everywhere, when SB will only get it on DVDs and an add on Disney Channel...promotion doesn't really revolve on what line the movie is in, its about where the money is.

So you"re saying that theatrical releases gets more promotion then DVDs? even Platinum Editions?.
So Bolt and Princess and the Frog will get more promotion then TinkerBell and Pinocchio PE because they want more people to see it in theatre?.

Sad to say (in my opinion at least), it seems that's the case these days. :|

It is sad, thought keep in the mind that the price is higher then it used to be (I for example haven't been in theater since last summer) so it's a bit hard for people to see films in theater.

I always wait for a movie to come out on DVD, as paying to see it in a theater is a complete waste of money. The only time I go to theaters is on my birthday or if it's something I really want to see (yes, I plan to see TP&TF). Why would you want to pay $10+ for a crowded, noisy room just to see a film--which may not even be good--once?

Back on-topic, they should probably start advertising around this Christmas, considering it comes out next Christmas. Maybe they could put advertisments in front of something popular, like the next HP film or something. But, yeah, I don't think they should advertise before then--a promo on SB at the earliest.

I see an average of 35 movies in theaters a year. (Most frequently between November and January- Oscar season).

I don't think it will be released with Bolt.

Maybe a small spot on the Sleeping Beauty: Platinum Edition DVD, but definitly nothing major yet.

You know what,Disney's Divinity? I think you"re right.
I mean,I even haven't seen Enchanted in theater (The last film I saw was Hairspray),you just see it once in a crowded, noisy room/
The Harry Potter And Half Bloded Prince's marketing already started?.

This is the thing that encourages me to go and see things on the big screen (if I can) is mainly due to the fact that things are, to put it simply, bigger. The most spectacular scenes in any film can work well on a normal sized TV. But when projected a good few metres tall and a few more wide, it really looks wonderful. And in some ways, 35mm film feels better than DVD quality. I personally find good-quality film to be quite organic and, if I recall correctly from my memories of deathiemouse's posts from way back when, also think that 35mm film has a similar definition level to HD. And I kinda like the theatrical kinda feeling in a cinema...it feels quite communal. And as far as the main feature is concerned, I can't recall many of the screening rooms that I've been in as being noisy (crowded, I can understand, depending on the scenario).

There's also some cinemas that I would really lobster-love to go to yet haven't been for whatever reason. I still haven't shifted my bum to go to the Broadway in Nottingham (a posh independent cinema showing obscurer art-house curiosities alongside mainstream hits), which is really stupid, since I've been a student in Nottingham for around two years now (naturally, I'm miles away from Robin Hood Land now, as school's out and I'm back with the 'rents). And I'd love to go to one of the big cinemas in the centre of London, just for the sheer experience of it. :P

And since I haven't really commented much on the topic of the marketting of The Princess and the Frog, I shall do so. Whilst I'm not ruling out the possibility that Disney won't show a trailer before Bolt (or on the Sleeping Beauty DVD or before whatever Disney film comes out as well around Christmas), does anyone think that Disney may not actually release trailers/posters/whatever until sometime next year? I don't think that they'll slack as much with marketing as they have with Bolt (which I think will end up being a flop, to be honest), but they may not be all that speedy either. From what I remember, Enchanted only had its trailer pop up online around May or June of last year when it had a Thanksgiving/Christmas release. And I don't really recall many posters popping up until sometime even later. And I have a feeling that Disney may be phasing out really early trailers. Wall-E hasn't opened in the UK, but unless I haven't looked hard enough online, no teaser-trailer has been release for Up yet like many of the previous Pixar films seemed to receive so early.

*sigh*

"Well, why go to a fine restaurant when you can just stick something in the microwave? Why go to the park and fly a kite when you can just pop a pill?"

No home movie experience, no matter how good you home theatre system is, can ever replace the thrill and excitement of being among the first people to ever see a certain film in a dark room on a huge screen with big speakers with a crowd of excited people. There just isn't.

Unless you see a film that has a lot of appeal to kids(such as a Disney movie) noise really shouldn't be that much of a concern, and even then, it can easily be avoided by the time of your showing and the day of the week. And $10.00 has to be a real exaggeration. The theaters in my area aren't much high than $7.00 at most.

Theaters just happen to bring the emotion of the film out. If you see a showing with fellow film fans, it's an added bonus.

I guess one question we need to ask is: How much footage will Disney need for a teaser trailer, and when will that amount of footage be ready for a trailer?

They really haven't had a real "good" (which I'll define next) animated trailer since "Brother Bear". When I say "good", I mean the ones that were on the Disney VHS tapes when I was growing up, that had some unfinished animatin (uncolored)...I have always loved those trailers. I don't think that those trailers were ever in theaters, but it'd be great if a trailer like that would come out for TP&tF...they wouldn't even need to have all the clips they want to show colorized yet! The "Pinocchio" DVD will hopefully have some kind of trailer for TP&tF!!!
