Why is this movie considered to be a remake, when it's, in fact, a TV sequel? I mean, the storyline is the same as in the original film, but it has Dean Jones reprising his role which automatically qualifies it as a sequel.

I would say it's a sequel of sorts... From what I remember, the story may have followed the original a bit.
Like you said, Dean Jones reprises his role, and there is already a "legacy" of Herbie that is passed on. It's not a remake like the Dukes of Hazzard movie or something.

I agree. It's just that the film was listed as a remake on Disney's official site, IMDb and Wikipedia, and now when I tried to look for those claims they were all gone

IMDB (to some extent) and Wikipedia are user-supported sites. I could go to Wikipedia and say they actually defrosted Walt Disney, and he is alive and well, and it would probably get on there for a bit. Of course, any Wikipedia user with an ounce of common sense would know that wasn't true, and it would get corrected very quickly.
Saying that this is a remake, on the other hand, probably seems fine to many users, especially if they haven't seen the film recently. I know one of the user reviews at IMDB called it both a sequel AND remake, in separate sentences. It may be that some people just call something like that a remake, even if it isn't.
