Disney Princes - should they be officially named?

I'm talking about Snow White's Prince, Cinderella's Prince Charming and the Beast. I think it's dumb to refer to them as just "*insert Disney Princess*' prince".
I know that Dave Smith's "Official Disney Encyclopedia" lists Prince Adam as Beast's real name, but considering the fact that the film takes place in France, "Adam" doesn't really sound French to me. How about Pierre, Francois, Etienne?
Also, I've read that Snow White's prince (see how dumb it is) is named Ferdinand. Can anyone confirm this as true? It actually sounds nice, "Snow White" supposedly takes place in Germany and "Ferdinand" does sound a bit German.
As for Prince Charming... Hmm, I don't know. "Cinderella" takes place in France or Belgium so something French would do. Maybe Jean? I'm surprised Disney didn't refer to this matter in "Cinderella" sequels, it seemed like the right place to state his name.
So what do you think, should they be given names or remain nameless?

How official is official? On the Beauty and the Beast DVD, the directors -
the creative team behind the story and the finished film - said they gave him no name, which is why Belle cries "Beast!" during the fight with Gaston. How can Adam be considered official, or canon, if it's not contained in the movie the character appears in?

Oh I remember that game, it's a computer game that you play where they ask you questions about disney movies and you have to answer them right, there was a question that showed us a picture of the Beast as a human and it had options like is it Prince Philip or Prince Eric or Prince Adam, and the correct answer was Prince Adam.
I wish we knew the name of Snow White's prince, how about Prince Wolfgang isn't that German enough ?

I read on wikipedia there was actually a screenshot of the stainglass paintings of Beast with "Prince Adam" written on it. I've yet to actually find such ocular proof but it I wouldn't be surprised if they snuck it in there, like they did with the skulls appearing in Gaston's eyes as he plunges to his death...

The only writing on the stained-glass windows is in the very first window - it's a Latin saying, "Vincit qui se vincit" - not "Prince Adam".
As for the Wikipedia, there's currently no mention of the name Adam on either the Beauty and the Beast page (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beauty_and ... 91_film%29) or the Beast page (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beast_%28D ... aracter%29). There's also no mention of it on Beast's page on the official Disney site (
http://disney.go.com/vault/archives/cha ... beast.html).

The D-Show, CD-ROM game (released by Disney Interactive in 1998) says that the Beast's real name is Adam. However, the Encyclopedia of Walt Disney's Animated Characters says he has no name.
So there you have it, two conflicting official sources.

I have that game and I played it hundreds of times but I never came upon that question.

It wasn't one of the category questions but one of the side games. Pixel Perfect I think it was, the one with the blurry pictures and you have to guess who the character is.

Well, neither is Mulan's Sjang. But a t least he has a name!
Can be fun making up names for the nameless princes.

Gah, I'm calling Cindy's prince Clark, no matter what you guys say. Right, Clark? That's so nice, Clark. What did you do yesterday, Clark?

He doesn't look like Clark to me, where's the moustache? How about Frederic? Then all Classic Princes' names would start with "F" (phonetically, at least).

Fat chance. The only possibility of seeing that was in "Cinderella XII" but Lasseter stopped production of DTV sequels

I think that this is a bit of a confusion that sort of spawned into a fan made name. In Walt Disney's acception speech to Shirley Temple for the special academy award, he says "Well, I'm sure that Mickey, Ferdinand, Snow White, and all the dwarfs would be very proud." I think Walt was actually referring to his character Ferdinand the bull, but since he made references to all the Snow White characters as well, people mistook that as the name for Ferdinand.
I agree though and think it would be nice if some of the nameless princes had at least official names. One of the fan-made names I liked for Prince Charming was Charmont. Sort of a play on the word charming but at the same time very French sounding like the rest of the movie characters.
