Not a studio to miss out on an opportunity (even a ridiculous one), Disney announced today an August 12th release of The Ultimate Mulan 2-Movie Collection, "perfectly timed" for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. The 3-disc set will apparently pair up the in-print releases of the 1998 animated feature (2004's 2-Disc Special Edition) and its 2005 direct-to-video sequel, with a list price of $34.99 SRP and the added incentive of Disney Movie Rewards points.

OH ok. I was confused with the title at first. So It'll be here Aug 2008. Great I wonder what the special features will be?

This will be a pass for me, as I already have the 2-disc edition, and have no interest in the sequel.

More than likely it will be the 2 Disc Mulan SE exactly as is... packaged with the 1 Disc Mulan 2 exactly as is...
Highly unlikely they will get anything more than new cover art.
This is really annoying... Why can they re-release Mulan (while the previous release is still in print... and was only released couple of years ago)
But they can't re-release Hercules (which if they are going with the Olympics theme could fit just as well as Mulan...)
And it probably won't even be available on Bluray... which would be the only reason this stupid little money making scheme would be worth anything at all.

Are you kidding me?.... I guess I won't buy this one. Got the 2-disc already and I don't really care about the sequel. Maybe Hercules and Hunchback's Special Editions aren't far now, though.

I hope you are right that maybe Hercules and the Hunchback SEs are soon to follow. They are way overdue. This re-release isn't really necessary, though. It'd be better if Disney would re-release a movie that hasn't been reissued since the GC, like the ones previously mentioned or The Black Cauldron, Pete's Dragon, or The Rescuers.

I'll buy. I don't care if it's in Blu-Ray or not. I know squat about most technology as it is.

I even doubt that it will get new cover art, they are probably just going to be packaged together, especially since they havn't been pulled off the shelves yet. Although the whole extra points thing sounds fun
by the way.... of course it wont be on Blu-ray. That would completely defeat the marketing ploy from Sleeping Beauty being the first animate classic on Blu-ray!

although I also do consider Chicken Little to be an animated classic, but that's obviously a debate I don't want to bring up in this topic

And more importantly (because it is superior to CL in every way imaginable)

.
Sleeping Beauty is a dirty stinking liar!

Really, will people actually get this because the Olympics are going to be held in Beijing?

But Meet the Robinsons wasn't the "first".

I thought Sleeping Beauty was advertised as either
1) first platinum edition release on Blu-ray
2) first traditionally animated feature on Blu-ray
anyway, Australia still has a 2-movie pack with Mulan I&II. I'm not sure if it bundles the 2-disc version of Mulan or not, but it's still in stores. Did North America ever get th 4-disc set of Cinderella (2-disc), Cinderella II & Cinderella III?

Nope, the only animated classic to get an offical box set release with all it's sequels was Fantasia and The Lion King. Beauty and the Beast had a mail in box, and Aladdin had an exclusive box at Suncoast.

hmmm interesting.... I'll only get this if it has some new good bonus features. No, I don't mean "an all new game!"

And a really nice cover....

Don't get me started on that. The protests go against everything the Olympics stand for.
And that is rather off-topic, I realize.
