Who does the voice for the merchant at the begining of the movie? You know the guy with the Dead sea tupperwear etc.
To me he sounds JUST like Robin Williams, am I the only one who thinks this? I can't se that robin get's credit for the part on imdb he only gets credit for "blue genie of the lamp."

I'm like 99% sure that the voice is that of Robin Williams, perhaps they just forgot to credit him for it in the credits. I haven't seen the credits in forever so I'm not sure.

I've never thought that it wasn't Robin Williams, but now that I think about it, you make a very good point!

It's Robin Williams. He has a thing about not getting credit (in lots of films).
The important question is this: How did the "merchant" with the genie's voice get the lamp, or know the story?
a: The merchant IS the genie!

I think I read somewhere that one of the original endings of Aladdin was having the merchant reprise "Arabian Nights" and at the end of the song, he reveals himself as the Genie. Aladdin went through so many story changes that the DVD better cover them in detail, though I have a feeling it won't...

Aaah, sounds logical.
The film would'nt be bad if it just started with a starlit sky with titles and then a pan down to the whole sequence with Jafar and his henchman.

See when i first saw the movie, and i was only six, that was how i expected it to end, but it never did, but then i found out not too long ago that i was not completely stupid because that was indeed how it was suppose to end....
I'd prefer that ending to the genie pulling up the film and saying Gotcha! it's just so stupid! Oh well.... I think it should pan down from Aladdin and Jasmine reprising a whole new world and flying off to the reprise of arabian nights.... but that's just me....

The original idea was indeed to have the merchant reprise "Arabian Nights" at the end and reveal himself as the Genie...and it was an idea that was indeed eventually used -- for the conclusion of the direct-to-video release, Aladdin and the King of Thieves. Sort of wraps up the "trilogy" as it were. [/i]

yeah the voice of the merchant is Robin Williams. i believe that was one of the main ideas of the story that the merchant was the Genie but the story was always changing so when Robin Williams did the voice recording, i bet somewhere in all the sound recordings that there was a line in which the audience finds out that the merchant is actually the Genie. i hope that on the DVD, Disney would have a special part in which you can hear all the lines that Robin Williams created but were not used in the film.
