Barefoot Executive 1995 remake better than the original?

I can't believe I'm saying this. I am like a classic Disney purist through and through. But I'm sitting here watching the 1995 remake of The Barefoot Executive and find myself thinking that this one might be better than the original 1971 film with Kurt Russell! I am a big Dexter Riley fan, and I still am like, "I'm really enjoying this".

There are a TON of cameos from celebrities....and by a ton I mean like 10-15 recognizable celebrities.

1995 saw remakes of four classic Disney films:

The Barefoot Executive
Escape to Witch Mountain
Freaky Friday
The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes

I think that The Barefoot Excutive might honestly be the only one to reach the integrity and spirit of the original. What does everyone else think?

It's just because I gave you the original The Barefoot Executive you think that way isn't it?

So wait, there was ANOTHER Freaky Friday remake(assumably tv) in between the 76 and 03 ones? I learn something new everyday.

And I thought I knew almost everything about Disney.

Actually I LOVE the one you got me.

::hugs The Barefoot Executive DVD::

I wouldn't trade it for the world! An essential addition to my collection ;)

But this remake just might be slightly more enjoyable to watch...

The Freaky Friday remake starred Shelly Long and Gaby Hoffman w/appearances by Drew Carey and Sandra Bernhard. It was okay for it's time, but not as good as the original or the remake. They used to play it all the time before the Curtis/Lohan remake, but I remember watching it I think on the Hallmark channel in the last year or two.

I don't remember a remake of the Barefoot Executive, but I do remember the Shaggy Dog remake w/Ed Begley Jr and Scott Weinger(the voice of Aladdin and DJ's boyfriend on Full House) as well as the Computer Wore Tennis Shoes w/Kirk Cameron and the blonde girl from SBTB:College Yrs. I liked both of these remakes and would purchase them if they put them out

Franky, nothing can be better than Kurt Russell on a motorcycle to the tune of "He's Gonna Make it." ...Seriously!

Does anybody have that song on mp3? I love it! and the original movie too, which was one of the few old Disney films I got to see on TCM, right after the 1951 version of Show Boat. That was a fun night.

I remember really enjoying the 1995 Barefoot Executive when it first aired. Naturally, I haven't seen it since. So ridiculous that all those Disney TV movies are essentially off the market; never to air on TV and seemingly never to turn up on a DVD, legally. I'd love to see the '95 Freaky Friday and I know that still gets aired sometimes (though not on channels I get).

Of course, I also enjoyed the 1971 version lots. Love the opening song.

I remember seeing that on youtube before so thanks for the link.

"He's gonna make it, he's gonna make it...." can some one do a DVD rip of that song?

Believe it or not, there was a Vista single of "He's Gonna Make It" - the soundtrack cut - by "BD & Company." Nice picture sleeve.

I actually don't think I got to see this TV remake. DID see the Shaggy Dog and Computer Wore Tennis Shoes ones though. I liked them both and also wouldn't mind getting them on DVD. I wish they could have done more with Dexter Riley than just Computer Wore Tennis Shoes. Or maybe they could do some new big screen Dexter stuff, but not just remakes.

However, the first two I'd request to get DVD releases would be the TV sequels to Love Bug (Bruce Campbell) and Shaggy Dog (Shaggy Dog Returns, about Wilby's wedding).

I can now see Disney casting Zac Efron in a new updated Dexter Riley series of movies. Anyone else shuddering at this idea besides me?

At the casting, yes. They could use that kid from Superhero Movie. Too bad he's a Nick kid. I think Disney producers better female stars and possibly Nick produces better male stars. Though I could be wrong because I haven't thought on the male stars much. Maybe there's a guy from Wizards of Waverly Place or Hannah Montana who could fit in the role of Dexter. No doubt, they'd use a Disney Channel star and make it one of those very Disney Channel fan targeted movies, but at least it would be Dexter Riley!

My nightmare would be a remake of Summer Magic with Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens instead of Eddie Hodges and Hayley Mills.
