Hello,

In November my mom, aunt, and I are going to NYC to see a musical. I made a list of ones I want to see and narrowed it down to two:

The Lion King
The Little Mermaid

My mom wants to see The Lion King, but my aunt wants to see The Little Mermaid. I can't decide. It's The Lion King's 10th Anniversiary, so is there anything special going on? And I'm afraid it's going to end soon. I didn't get a chance to see Beauty and the Beast, and then it ended.


But then again, I really want to see The Little Mermaid. Will the original cast still be there in November of 2008?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hopefully others chime in, but The Lion King is celebrating it's 10th anniversary with "a gala performance" on Sunday, November 11. Unfortunately I don't know what that is.

As for what show to see, I haven't seen Lion King, and will be seeing Mermaid in April, but everyone in the entire world thinks The Lion King on Broadway is better than The Little Mermaid on Broadway. Even without seeing either, I bet that's true.

My advice is see the little Mermaid, just seeing a big show like that with it's original cast would be amazing!!! Yes the original cast should still be there in November, or at least most of it.

The Lion is an amazing show, but it's been running for years and there's carbon copies of it all over the world, go see Ariel while she's still the one and only!!! Go and see it with the cast who went through the process of putting the show where it is now, rather than seeing a show with new cast members who stepped in years after the show lost it's original spark.

Whatever you decide, enjoy the show!!!

Go see "The Lion King". Julie Taymor does an awesome job with the show.

I would absolutely say go see "The Lion King"! It is such and amazing show, absolutely wonderful, and I think you would love it. I have seen it twice and I would pay to go see it 100 more times. Plus, it is celebrating 10 years on Broadway, and it might not stay on Broadway for much longer. If "The Little Mermaid" is a success, it will probably be there for at least 10 more years.

But I wanna meet Sierra Bogess so bad. But then again I don't want to miss The Lion King.

ABSOLUTELY!! You will NOT regret it, it is incredible. Happy, sad, exciting, MOVING, visually stimulating, A-MA-ZING!

The Lion King. Hands Down. From what I've seen and heard about The Little Mermaid, it isn't very good. The Lion King however has rave reviews. When I saw it my jaw was on the floor the whole time. It was easily the best Broadway show I have ever seen (mind you the list of shows I've seen isn't very long, but it still ranks the highest among the 8 ).

"Mermaid" is getting totally mixed reviews, but even my theatre teacher concedes that Julie Taymor did a great job conceiving / directing the show, and he's like a total theatre snob, even more than me. Go see it!

I have so many favorties but out of the Disney ones, I just want to see The Little Mermaid. The Lion King was better than it is today. I loved the OBC.

As for the gala, perhaps it's secret, it's hard to find out much on it, but Julie Taymor, who concieved the production, said things like "We're having a performance, and everybody who's ever been in it is invited Sunday, and there's a big party" and "if they're around and available" and "maybe we'll do something I suggested, I don't know if anyone's taken me up on having people just stand up spontaneously in the audience and join in on singing from here, from moment to moment."

WOAH OMG: "Disney's The Lion King can finally celebrate its 10th Anniversary on Broadway tonight, Thursday November 29! Because of the strike, the musical was unable to mark its gala performance on Sunday, November 11 at the Minskoff Theatre."

WHAT? I couldn't find the date that article was posted, so perhaps it was November this year...? I guess it's over but I can't find info on it! Oh, some more:

"A gala celebration was planned for Sunday, 11 November 2007. With the advent of the stagehands' union Local One strike on 10 November 2007, the celebrations on Sunday were confined to the after show party ... which took place without a preceding show."

"Disney plans other events throughout the year to celebrate The Lion King's milestone achievement."

Hmmm..on Disney Channel there's one of those Disney 365 whos where the host and Emily Osment are talking about The Lion King's 10th Anniversiary on Broadway...I don't know, lol. It just premeired like this past weekend, too..

Oh, I saw that Disney Channel thing, too, and I think it just goes with what that one article said, Disney's celebrating all year. Part of the celebration is opening other productions of The Lion King in other countries, which Disney Channel mentioned. But I think the gala's over. I'm sorry.

Pull out your copy of "The Lion King: Platinum Edition" (assuming you own it, hopefully you do) and watch the bonus features on the musical. It will give you a great taste of what you are in store for and get you excited and anxious to see "The Lion King" on Broadway.

Which movie do you like better? Chances are, you will like the show better. ;P If you have no preference, think on terms of the cast members and other factors.

I talked to someone who played Scar in The Lion King on Broadway (! !) for the winter, this winter, and he's done, and I asked him about the 10th anniversary and if anything was happening and he was confused and said, "You mean last year?" As in 2007 I suppose. I think it's over, Panfan. Sorry.

It strange to me that The Lion King is the better muscial on broadway.

Well, thats just my opinion since I've always thought The Little Mermaid was the better musical then The Lion King...In the movies anyway. I think "Lion" is a better film but "Mermaid" takes the cake for musical. Perhaps if I ever take a gander at both musicals then I'll see for myself.

Anyways for you Peter Pan, it all just depends on which movie you like better But personally, I think you should see The Lion King just in case it does end soon and I think The Little Mermaid will probably be around a lot longer, and so will Sierra Boggess.
