I've never been to WDW, only Disneyland. But I know a lot of UDers have quite a bit of knowledge about the parks.

I ran across something on wikipedia (not very reputable, I know, I know. lol) stating that there was a black cauldron themed restaurant called gurgi's munchings and crunchings that was later replaced by a BatB remodel? Just wondering if anyone could give any sort of confirmation to that, it sounds really interesting.

Yep, that was a real restaurant.

I don't have pictures, but I ate there at least one one trip, ha. It was in Fantasyland, of course, and I believe it was an open-air sort of restaurant where you got the fast food treatment. I got a Happy Meal type meal there, which I think even came in a Happy Meal type box (but, no, I'm not saying McDonald's was running the place). I believe it was chicken strips or nuggets and it came with a little plastic Mickey Mouse sorcerer figure that I'm sure I still have today in one of my many storage boxes full of figures. Anyway, it's a shame when they change something like this. As I keep saying, they are making the parks nothing but Princesses, Pirates, PIXAR, and Pooh. The four P's. I love that stuff, but I love Disney parks because of the Disney variety, which they once had TONS of, like when they had Gurgi's Munchies and Crunchies. I don't think it's going to make much difference in sales if they change the name/look of one of their little snack places to a Princess theme. If people are in that area and hungry, and if that's the price range they're going for, they're going to eat there. So it's a shame that we lost the presence of yet another non-P subject at the parks for no good reason.

I hate The Black Cauldron, and even I would have to admit that I would like to see something like this. It really does seem like Disney under represents a lot of their films in their theme parks. I think the parks especially should have at least SOMETHING from all of their Disney Animated Classics.

Gurgi's Munchies & Crunchies was located where Village Fry Shoppe is now.

This is from the 1988 Magic Kingdom park map:

Gurgi's Munchies and Crunchies: Fantasyland. Child's menu in a Mickey Mouse box, plus sandwiches for adults.

and

Gurgi's Munchies and Crunchies: Entrees for children feature chicken nuggets and grilled cheese, served in a special box. Sandwiches, chips for adults.

The Mickey Mouse box was the happy meal type of thing sold throughout the parks.

and from Waltdatedworld.bravepages.com: Gurgi's Munchies & Crunchies: This took the place of Lancer's Inn. It opened October 26, 1986 and closed February 13, 1993. It featured entrees for children such as chicken nuggets and grilled cheese served in a special box. There were also sandwiches and chips for adults. Gurgi's later became Lumiere's Kitchen.

Actually, if you look at the galleries on the DVD, you can see pictures of the costumed characters in Tokyo Disneyland when the movie came out. And that's it for "The Black Cauldron" in Disney parks! Besides the pin I saw before with Creeper & the Horned King. And other TBC pins are shown on Google images.

I have a pin that says "Happy Bosses Day 2004" and has Creeper and The Horned King. I wish I had the 20th Anniversary one they made in 2005.

And your right Amy, I forgot about the costumed characters on the DVD. Wish Gurgi would at least still be walking around.

Shame it was closed. What, if anything, replaced it?

I've seen the latter. That is sad. I'll take Gurgi's and Lumiere's over McDonald's any day.
