Black Cauldron DVD question

Does ANYONE else have this problem with the DVD? I bought the DVD, had this issue, exchanged it for a new one, and the same problem happened.

When I'm watching the movie, it plays fine up until chapter 12 (Where the gang gets the cauldron from the witches) finishes. Suddenly, instead of just going forward to chapter 13, it skips to chapter 14, where Gurgi goes into the castle after the warriors are revived from the dead. Although I can backtrack to chapter 13 to watch it, it's annoying to have to do so. But yes, I'm wondering if anyone else has this issue.

My DVD doesn't have that problem.

Where did you buy it from? Is it scratched?

Both copies were purchased/exchanged at Best Buy and are in perfect physical condition.

That's really strange. I would return it, get your money back, and try buying it at another store...that's strange that it's happened to you twice...

I'm not sure that'll solve the problem. It's something in the DVD encoding that my DVD player simply cannot handle properly. I had a similar problem with the Snow White DVD on my old player, although I'll never know if that was merely on that one copy or if it was something all SW DVDs would do on my player. Not to mention The Wizard of Oz 3-Disc set wouldn't play properly on my old player - a problem which actually prompted me to get my current player.

Oh- I was just assuming that Best Buy had a bad batch of those DVDs. Have you tried the DVD(s) on another DVD player?

On some rare occasions, certain DVDs aren't compatible with certain players. My old Jungle Book DVD used to stop by itself right at the beginning of the credits. I replaced it at the store, and the new disc had the same problem. Then I tried with another player and it played fine.

Wow I hope that didn't happen to me, it was the first time I watched the movie so I might not have noticed if it skipped part of the film!

Yes, that happens from time to time - and it can be hard to tell whether there's anything wrong with the DVD OR the player. It seems to me that there must be a "grey zone" along the edges of the DVD standard...

Oh, trust me, it's WAY noticeable, even if you never saw it before.

From all I've heard about the DVD transfer, I honestly expected worse. It could be far better, but I still expected worse.

I haven't had a skipping problem but I do have another problem and was wondering if anyone had the same thing happen. Near the end I get a white dashed line along the side of the picture. Does anybody else get this? It doesn't effect the movie however it is annoying when you see this line scrolling along the side while you are trying to watch the movie.

The French Black Cauldron DVD's transfer is much better, as you may already have heard.

Heard that one too. Although I'm not expecting it any time soon, there's always a possibility we'll get that DVD too.

I actually just bought The Black Cauldron from Amazon. I received and watched it today. Mine didn’t have that problem. It’s probably that stores shipment.
