Disney.co.uk have got the dvd of bambi scheduled for release in march 2005, it's not advertised but it does clearly say that bambi is due for release then. lets hope the date doesn't get changed!

Hmm...good find. I suppose this could very well mean that Bambi and Cinderella are switched on the Platinum release schedule.

That sounds great!
I know European DVD releases seem to be doing their own thing sometimes (Sleeping Beauty in the UK; that French Platinum schedule that was floating about), but this seems like very promising news from an obviously reliable source.
Hope it comes to bear fruit (or something).

I really hope this european version is not going to be any different than the US version. European versions are indeed having their own way and I actually don't like what Buena Vista did with Belgian releases here. Let's hope!

I know I should be happy that we at least have some sort of source as to when Bambi may be released, but I was REALLY hoping Cinderella would be the March 2005 Platinum since it's pretty much guaranteed The Little Mermaid will be the October 2005 one. Sigh...

The way I see it, The Little Mermaid is a lock for October 2005, but it's the only movie Disney will re-release before getting their whole library out. So Bambi and Cinderella are competing for the March 2005 slot and whichever one isn't released in that slot is a lock for March 2006. This information seems to indicate that Bambi is the March 2005 variable (probably to coincide with the awful cheapquel, which I'm sad to see Alexander Gould wasting his time with), which means that Cinderella is a lock for March 2006. And look on the bright side -- that's still a lot earlier than the original Cinderella slot of October 2007 under the original Platinum slate, plus, Bambi is long overdue as well. No complaints here.
Plus - Bambi was always slated for 2005 anyway, remember? That was its original year, Oct 2005, until Little Mermaid claimed that spot, but then 2 or 3 days later they announced the revised slate and timeline. And we do get Bambi earlier than October, as well.

That's true. When I look at it from that perspective, Cinderella doesn't seem as far off and Bambi's date seems more sensible. Thanks, Jake.
Here's hoping the platinums yet to be released fare better than Lion King in terms of in-depth features. I'm pretty sure Bambi and Cinderella will get excellent editions as Disney relies heavily on historians who know their stuff for their classic titles, but I can't help but wonder about the fates of Aladdin and The Little Mermaid...

I don't agree with Jake - I reckon the Dutch list offers the best indiacation of what we'll be getting in Europe (and can be found elsewhere in a thread). This runs as follows:
Aladdin - Oct '04
Bambi - Mar '05 (both of these are pretty much confirmed)
followed by:
Cinderella - Oct 05
Lady and the Tramp - Mar 06
The Little Mermaid - Oct 06
The Jungle Book - Mar 07
101 Dalmations - Oct 07
The reason I believe this list is because it alternates 'Princess' or Human oriented movies with animal movies as much as possible, and ensures that two films about dogs - Lady and the tramp and 101 Dalmations - aren't released consecutively. But I could be wrong!

This is the way I'd release them as well, I'm mean if I were in charge (dreams about that for awhile).

It actually makes sense to have Cinderella to be the October 2005 Platinum as opposed to The Little Mermaid because Cinderella will be the last Disney animated film not previously released on DVD; everything that would follow will have been on DVD before as a Limited Issue. Also, the other two Walt princess movies (Snow White and Sleeping Beauty) were both released in the fall, and I can very easily see Cinderella being a fall release as Disney saves their big titles for the 4th quarter.

i would have thought it would make more sense to release lady and the tramp in 2005 as it would be the 50th anniversary beinfg released originally in 1955!

YOu see what the problem with that sentence was? You said "it would make sense". Nothing Disney Australia/UK/Europe ever does makes sense. Or Disney US for that matter.
Am I being too cynical?
If I haven't done so already, welcome to the board Ichabod.

Don't forget that 2005 is the 50th anniversary of Disneyland as well...
Disney could release both of their most anticipated releases (Bambi and Cinderella) in 2005 for all those millions of theme park visitors to buy when they are at the park ???... I'm sure a Cinderella parade down Main Street would have hundreds of thousands clamouring into those shops to buy Cinderella !)...
In anycase, I will be there for the anniversary.. It will be very interesting too see what the Fall 2005 release is !
