Disney Movie Club

I need help. I constantly keep receiving the Disney Movie Club sign up form in the mail, and I actually considered it the most recent time I got it. I have questions though.

Is anyone else signed up for it?
Is it worth it?
Do the DVDs come with slipcovers? (Sorry, a bit of OCD :P)
Anything else you want to share?

It seems to be a good deal, but I figured I'd get an inside opinion on it. Of course, Ultimatedisney.com was the first place that popped into my mind for advice.

Thank you in advance!

You might be interested to know that there is another forum for the Disney Movie Club. If you haven't already, be sure and check it out.

As for your question, I love the Disney Movie Club (and recently got my VIP membership). The reason I think I love it so much is because they have exclusive titles. I honestly wouldn't praise the club too highly above anything like "Columbia House" or something like that if it weren't for the exclusive incentives that get me excited every month when I get my catalog. It is your pretty standard, commit to buying "x" number of movies and we will get you 7 for really cheap club.

The DMC Exclusive DVD titles I own are:

The Story of Robin Hood and His Merrie Men
Kidnapped
A Tiger Walks
The Fighting Prince of Donegal
Ride a Wild Pony
The Treasure of Matecumbe
Shipwrecked
Yellowstone Cubs
THe Blugrass Special
Jumping Ship
Zorro: The Complete First Season
The Horse Without A Head

There are a handful more that I'd like to pick up including:

Ducktales the Movie; Treasure of the Lost Lamp
Rob Roy: The Highland Rogue
Little Dog Lost
Stub, the Best Cowdog in the West
Smarthouse
A Tall Tale

Overall, most of the DMC exclusive DVDs are completely featureless with static menus and no chapter selections menu (though they ALL have chapter stops if you skip ahead using your remote). I have heard that the Ducktales Movie has some bonus features on it. On the plus, almost all of these films seem to have undergone restoration of some kind or another. Granted they may be transfers from laserdisc, but they are definitely remastered laserdisc transfers. Much better than any VHS you could try to track down (some of these weren't even available on VHS!). Most are fullscreen, but some are widescreen (Jumping Ship is 1.78:1 anamorphic for example)

I haven't ordered anything with a slipcover so can't attest to that. I do know that if you order the featured DVD of the month, you get a holographic chapter seach insert in the DVD box (basically the coverart in a holographic form).

They also sell Bluray discs as well as a big chunk of their Touchstone/Miramax/Hollywood Pictures/Dimension libraries. So there is truly something there for everyone.

Overall I would only suggest the club to those who wish to get exclusive DVDs only available through the DMC. Otherwise the DVDs would probably be cheaper finding them online or at WalMart. There are several little benefit things here and there that a lot of people really enjoy, but for me.....I'm only in it for the Disney movies.

Hoped this helped.

Thank you so much! It really did help. I'm going to sign up, but it seemed perfect because in order to stay in, I have to buy four DVDs at regular price within two years, which I would do in two months. xD

I apologize for starting another topic. I had a feeling it would do that, but I'm slightly retarded with the search option. Again, sorry about that.

Thanks again though!

I have another big question:

I'm in the movie club, but is there any way to turn off getting the movie of the month? I don't want them to send it to me monthly anymore, so is there a way to turn this off or do I have to have it?

You've got to decline the selection each month. It's a nuisance if you're in the Club for the long haul. Especially since I've even had cases where I'm sure I declined it and still got it. In those cases, just mark it REFUSED and they usually process the return pretty quickly.

Oh, I see. So we still have to open it to return it?

Nope- you can just write "Refused- Return to Sender" on the box itself, without ever opening it.

Another question (sick of me yet? lol):

How do you cancel your membership?

I don't plan on it, but just in case..

I would say just to cancel over the phone. The phone number to talk with an actual person is 1-888-257-9100 (during normal business hours only).
