Photoshop vs. PhotoDeluxe

I've heard a lot about Photoshop lately and I have Abode PhotoDeluxe Home Edition. The way everyone says Photoshop makes me think that Photoshop and PhotoDeluxe are two entirely different things. What's the difference between them if there are any?

Usually the word "photoshop" now just means to modify a photo with any image program (be it PhotoShop, PhotoDeluxe, etc.). Like how people say "Jacuzzi" instead of hot tub, or "band-aid" instead of "bandage".

PhotoDeluxe is a discontinued program(2002) that was replaced by Photoshop Elements. Both programs are Adobe programs. I've never used PhotoDeluxe or seen it before, but from what I've read, it is basically a very limited version of Photoshop Elements. Photoshop Elements is a limited version of Photoshop. I can tell you any version of Photoshop Elements or Photoshop, after 2002, would have more tools, filters, and other features than PhotoDeluxe.
Unless you are studying or have a career in Graphic Design or Photography, you probably would have no reason to upgrade to Photoshop.

I've got PhotoDeluxe and I've used Photoshop, I personally prefer and find PhotoDeluxe easier, but I suppose it's just what I'm used to

PhotoDeluxe is basically an older version of Photoshop Elements. Elements added more features that are not available in Deluxe. Unless you really need all the features of Photoshop your probably ok to stick with PhotoDeluxe, or upgrade to the latest Elements.
If you want to try out a free "Photoshop" like program I would suggest Gimp.

I've used it in Linux and Windows 2000/XP with no problems. It has a lot of great features, its free, and updated regularly.

You can say that Photoshop is for the professional and Photoshop Elements is for the hobbyist.
I have experience with both of them: I've got Photoshop 5.5. on my mac under the 'classis' environment and Photoshop Elements 3 under OSX .
I would love to buy some newer version of Photoshop CS but it isn't really affordabe...
Photoshop Elements does a good job but a feature I really miss are the 'help lines' you can place in an exact position. And the tricks you can do with lettering are quite limited.
