Does anybody know what the hold-up issue is on "The Monkey's Uncle" DVD? This seems like one of the popular titles they would do for sure (since they already put out "Merlin Jones"), especially with Annette and The Beach Boys selling the still popular title song.

What gives? Anybody know?

Is there a music royalties issue with The Beach Boys or some reason (other than the usual cluelessness) that this is not available?

Disney's pretty much abandoned releasing live-action catalogue titles unless it's a tie-in to a new movie (such as National Treasure), or if it's in the Treasures Series, or if it's through Disney Movie Club (and I doubt it's the latter, I haven't heard of any new DMC exclusives...then again, I'm not a club member).

Merlin, Im with you! Iv been wondering the same thing about The Monkeys Uncle!!! I doubt that the Beach Boys appearing in the opening credits has anything to do with why it isnt being released since Disney owns the rights to the song/recording. I hope that it will eventually be released on DVD! Its a GREAT MOVIE!

What does Ten Who Dared have to do with The Monkey's Uncle, Song of the South, So Dear to My Heart, Prince and the Pauper, Sign of Zorro, The Incredible Journey, Sammy the Way Out Seal, Escapade in Florence, The Horsemasters, The Light in the Forest, Sword and the Rose, Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color, Disneyland, Walt Disney Presents, etc.?

Movies and TV shows are not just cookie-cutter product based on age, they are individual entities, works of popular culture (and sometimes art) that should be judged each for their own merits.

Yeah the movie posters say: "Annette and The Beach Boys" - the opening titles just say "The Beach Boys" - and the records only say "Annette."

I suppose it had something to do with their Capitol Records contract VS her Buena Vista label. Maybe the mixed billing was all a contractual trade-off.

Also - -"The Monkey's Uncle" opening title sequence with Annette and The Beach Boys exists as "textless" footage (as it was shown on The Wonderful World of Color), which would make a neat "video" extra on the DVD if they ever get around to it (same goes for "Merlin Jones" titles).

The Merlin Jones movies would never work in a Treasures set, but they would work as a Disney double feature, like the Parent Trap I/II & Old Yeller/Savage Sam releases. I would purchase it even though I already have the Misadventures of Merlin Jones.

The way they would work in the Treasures line would be to present them as they were presented on the Walt Disneys Wonderful World of Color...with the intros and all.

The point of the Treasures line isn't to release movies on them, although SotS would work, it's more for the cartoons, serisals, and Disneyland episodes, and whatnot.

I wouldn't anticipate the Merlin Jones series as a canidate for the Disney Treasures. Leonard Maltin is the mastermind behind the Treasures and he cares little for those particular films. A set similar to the Parent Trap or Old Yeller is conceivable though.

I'd be happy with just a regular movie-edition DVD or two-pack - - with the text free title sequences and trailers as extras.

Or how about a (non-Treasures) Annette Funicello box set like TCM does, including Shaggy Dog, Babes in Toyland (both in the right aspect ratio), The Horsemasters, , Escapade in Florence, Merlin Jones, Monkey's Uncle, the Zorro episodes, Backstage Party, Golden Horseshoe, Disneyland After Dark, the MMC Annette serial and Disney Family Album with Annette.

I like those TCM stes, and while there at it they could make one for Kurt Russel as well.

I've read a couple mentions lately about The Shaggy Dog not being in the proper aspect ratio on dvd. What is the proper ratio? It's available as 1.75:1 (b&W) and 1.33:1 (colorized).

Shaggy Dog was shot in full 1.33 with a theatrical crop of 1.66 at most - - 1.75 cuts off the dog and action in many shots.

(The colorized master should simply be discarded).
