Hi all,

I've just watched The Black Cauldron (R1 Gold version) and although great story the quality wasn't great.

I read online the french version is remastered etc and much better - is this true and if so does anyone know of an easy place online to purchase a copy?

Thanks all, g

If you're familiar with the Amazon system, Amazon.fr seems to be the best place. Although its not English, the screen layout/order system matches the English language Amazon sites exactly. If you already have an Amazon account, you can even use that without having to sign-up again!

I'm not sure what country you are from, but if it's the UK you don't have to worry about tax and import duty on EU imports.

If you are from the US, check that your DVD system (player and/or monitor) can display PAL signals correctly first - even if it is a multi-region DVD player, it may not do the standards conversion required.

Here's the actual product-page on Amazon.fr: http://www.amazon.fr/Taram-Chaudron-Mag ... 681&sr=1-2

I am thinking about ordering it myself, since it's one of the DVD's of which I have a "sub par" edition. And it is fairly cheap if you live in the Euro zone with a price of only 10,39 euro's.

I received the French DVD of the The Black Cauldron from amazon.fr this week and I must say that it is absolutely gorgeous! The picture quality is easily at the same level as the best of Disney's other restored classics.

If you want the beautifully restored anamorphic transfer, but don't want the
annoying 4% speed-up from the PAL French DVD, then you should order the
NTSC Korean DVD instead, only $10.99 here:

Is the french version really that much better? Is it worth to buy again, if you have already a DVD?

Yes - it's remastered and anamorphic (so there aren't huge black bars encoded in the movie).

I would go with the Korean DVD that mvealf pasted a link to... that one's NTSC and thus not sped up. You'd still need a region-free DVD player either way.

Thanks :)

I'm not sure, if I will buy the french version or not, because Buena Vista Germany has announced there will be a new "Special Edition" of the Black Cauldron. I've asked, which transfer will be used but didn't get an answer yet.
The PAL-Speed-up do not bother me, coz almost all my DVDs are PAL and I'm accustomed to it.

Yes it is. See the screenshot comparison I created a couple of years ago here.
