Beauty and the Beast DVD

I finally got my beloved Beauty and the Beast SE DVD. I now own the only two DVD's that I really care about. They're my two favourite movies.

But I shouldn't have gotten Pirates first. Since it's such a fantastic set, Beauty and the Beast was a little disappointing since it's so "fluffy". I haven't watched the movie yet, and although the Lumiere and Cogsworth section is really informative, the sections are really short.

It seems that each little segment was cut so that it would fit into the length of one of the film's songs (which played in the background). Oh, well, it's still great!

Where'd you find it?

And yeah, it is a rather fluffy set. But compared to Lion King's extras, it's the Holy Bible.

Beauty and the Beast is disappointing because it's fluffy, PERIOD. It would have been just as disappointing to you had you gotten it first and Pirates second. It's a wonderful set but it just isn't up to the level set by other Disney releases, especially Snow White.

I agree, though I'm more warm towards the DVD than most people. I felt that everything we really needed we got-extensive galleries, trailers and tv spots, pencil and camera tests, commentary, etc. I felt it was a great DVD package. Perhaps not up to Snow White/Fantasia/Atlantis quality, but good enough. Basically, Snow White went head deep into the waters of making of, B&tB went a nice, solid waist deep, and TLK merely dipped its toes while trying to draw attention to other things *coughanimalkingdomandbroadwaycough*.

I certainly agree with everything you said...
"Beauty and the Beast" has some very good extras (though not on par with Snow White/Fantasia/Atlantis) and I love the choice to watch three cuts of the film... Hmm, and the audio commentary is one of the funniest I have ever heard.
What I don't like about the DVD is that they crammed so much stuff on disc 1 that the video quality of the film got mared.

So I guess you have no right to talk about them.

You have 3 copies of Lion King on DVD and NEVER bothered to put in Disc 2??? Yes there's some fluff there but there is still some info, it's worth watching at least once! Give it a try!

There are a lot of things on both discs worth watching - the still galleries, deleted scenes, presentation reels, music videos etc. Just because the interview/making of material isn't extremely "in-depth", it doesn't mean all the bonus material is trash.
Am I the only one here who was happy to see so much Broadway-related material included on The Lion King DVD?

I agree it draws a lot of attention to animal kingdom and broadway. I haven't watched all of disc 2 but I have seen disc 1 stuff. Personally I didn't care for animal kingdom. I thought it was more of a safaria then an amusement park. :P

the extras may not have been very good, but the main reason I bought it was for the movie. It's one of the best disney cartoons and I would have bought it even if it had no extras. :)

Well, MMB, you're missing a lot of good stuff! :)

Yes, MMB, you should watch Disc 2. If you're so concerned about avoiding the fluff features, pop in disc 2, go to North America and then Glendale. That section holds the meat and potatoes of Disc 2 due to the fact that pretty much everything there was ported from the laserdisc.

I enjoyed the BATB DVD... It was the first real time I browsed the bonus features of a DVD, and I really enjoyed it, so much that after seeing the Bonus Features I just had to pop in the Movie and watch it! I guess there could definately have been more on the dvd, like early early concept reels, from Walt's firest two attempts to make it into an animated feature and such but as a whole I thought it was pretty good.

The Lion King on the other hand, was not so good, and one of the most annoying things was that certain things, and the biggest thing I can think of is the cd covers, were repeated on every contintent, sometimes more than once on a single continent!!!! Why? WHY!!??!

I think the DVD offered some interesting info, but it just wasted so much potential, I only hope Aladdin is atleast on par with BATB, but really it should be above and beyond, even what Snow White was, cause there is just so much info and such.... We'll see...

I hope Aladdin is the best Platinum so far, but I def thought BATB was a good DVD, and I like the Story Behind the Story feature...
