Problem with my TV

Whenever I turn on my TV, there is a thin line that goes from bottom to top of the screen repeatedly.

My TV is about 3 years old now, so I don't know if its a problem with the TV itself or not. I have cable hooked up to it in the back, and a video hook-up in front that connects it to my hometheater. I know it doesn't have to do with my HT hookup, because I took the plug out, and the lines were still there while watching TV.

Any suggestions on how to fix this, ASAP?

Ummm, did you get any new items to hook up to the TV for Christmas or something? I can't hook up VCR and DVD together because it causes lines for me. If i only hook up one at a time it's not a problem. I take it too mean my TV was never envisioned for DVD.

Does the problem occur when you are watching regular TV? If so, with everything hooked up? If so, unplug something and try it again. Could be too many things plugged up.

It occurs wether I'm watching TV or movies, and no I haven't hooked up anything new. This has been a problem for a while.

As I said, I took out the video hookup to my home theater and the lines were still on the screen.

I'll try unplugging the VCR and see if that changes anything.

I hope it's the VCR and not the TV....

I unplugged the cable hookups from the TV to the VCR, and then re-plugged them and it seems fine now. Maybe it just wasn't plugged in tight enough. Hopefully, the lines on screen won't re-appear.

Thank goodness it's fixed for the time being! Hope it was just that and not the TV.

OK, just in case anyone else ever gets this problem:

I did some research and found out that this is called a "ground loop" problem. It has to do with too many plugs all in one place, and thats exactly the way it was in my room.

Now, last night, the lines re-appeared on the tube again. I took out the cable hook-up from the back of the VCR and the lines dissapeared when watching a movie. So basically, I think I'm just going to do that whenever I watch a film - there's no other plugs to hook up all my equipment in my room. Oh well, the lines in the movies were the most annoying anyway because they are more noticable due to the pristine transfers of DVDs.
