I think 'Sleeping Beauty' is Lambert's favourite Disney film, so it seems quite likely. I have the 'Pinocchio' book and it's beautiful; I would love to see as many Disney films as possible treated in this manner.

I never heard about this before, but if it's true I'd say there's reason to believe that the book is going to be grand and beautiful.

Is his previous books still in print?? What are the titles? Any links?

Out of print by now, I'm afraid - the first one was published ten years ago and the others not much later. You'd probably have to look for used copies. The titles in question are Pinocchio, Mickey Mouse and Blanche-Neige (Snow White) - the latter was only available in the original French edition. I've got Pinocchio and Mickey Mouse. They are quite outstanding in artwork, printing, paper and size.

Though not available from amazon, as far as I understand - those would have to be from "private sellers", right...?

That is the sort of price one would have to pay for such a book.

Pierre Lambert's Snow White/ Blanche Neige is a magnificent volume and in my opinion knocks spots off the Stephen Ison Snow White An Art In It's Making beautiful though the title is. Pierre Lambert wins hands down the production quality is magnificent Buy it if you love the Snow White movie!

Eyvind Earle deserves a book all to himself - his artwork for the Sleeping Beauty movie is just magnificent. Love to see a Marc Davis Maleficent pre production sketches section in the book too!

One can of course only hope that another volume is in the works,

I myself am still dissapointed that later disney movies
like mermaid, aladdin , batb, and even lion king
don't have such handsome books to accompany these great movies.

it's a shame to see that certain movies are considered more classic disney than others, though the ones I mentioned above are more recent, that doesn't make them any less classic, and I for one believe it is due time for disney to invest more in their heritage, and create more books with such lavish artwork as those presented in the pierre lambert books
instead of the miserable and very slim ''art of'' volumes, that mostly contain very early production artwork with , in my own humble opinion, not the greatest imagery that we do know is available!

however, like many before me a discussion about disney books and there
eventual outcome ( art of wall-e, still holding my hopes up!)
is anybodies guess.

all in all we should be gratefull for the books most of us already own.

I myself own a very limited 1944 issue of r.d.field entitled:
the art of walt disney, not to be mistaken with the later christopher finch edition, it is without a doubt a collector's volume with many never before seen pictures of ''fantasia'', snowwhite and more ''classic'' disney.

just to put it out there, some of you may find this of interest.

Yes this is a superb book - I own it too - though my favourite book on the Disney Studio is probably The Art Of Animation by Bob Thomas publised to coincide with Sleeping Beauty in 1959 - this of course includes Eyvind Earle and a host of Sleeping Beauty imagery - however I'd still love to see a whole book on S B as it's my second favourite Disney animation after Snow White my all time favourite!

Well, it may not be quite like Pierre Lambert's books, but I'd say Christopher Finch's Art of The Lion King isn't exactly slim and cheap-looking. There are also similar volumes of the other mid- to late-90s "classics".

Nice and old and somewhat rare, I guess. But does your copy say anything about "limited edition" or anything like that - did they do that back then?

BTW, I guess yours is a British edition? The first edition was published in the US in 1942. It's fascinating that this book doesn't look at the Golden Age of Disney from a distance - it was written while the Golden Age was happening!

i love the books that are acompanied with the DVDs. Im from the UK and i remember getting snow white on a region 1 dvd but i really wanted this collector's edition version that was a purple book design that came with the book "snow whote: an art in it's making" i made mum makeout to the store that we'd bought the CE but wasnt supplied with the book so we got a free one. THE BOOK IS ACE!!! HAHA

Totally agree, one of the finest ones out there, although
Blanche Neige does have more material.

I must be very lucky to own both books!
