Knievel died in Clearwater, Florida on November 30, 2007, at the age of 69. He had been suffering from diabetes and pulmonary fibrosis for many years. Longtime friend Billy Rundel reported that Knievel had trouble breathing while at his residence in Clearwater, but died before the ambulance could reach the hospital. "It's been coming for years, but you just don't expect it. Superman just doesn't die, right?" was Rundel's reaction.

Truly a legend. May he have peace.

Yeah thats too bad. I remember watching him do his stunts on tv when I was a kid. I had a few of the Evel Knievel playsets with the SST motorcycles. They were good fun.

When Mr. Knievel was here in Wichita in 2002, I had the pleasure of shaking his hand, and talking with him for a few minutes. He was a very gentle man and if you didn't know who he was, you would never believe that he could do the things he did. I never got to see any of stunts in person, but just getting a chance to be close to him away from all his notiriety is enough for me.

May he find the peace he was looking for. We will all miss him.
