I just curious as to which ten years do you feel were the best for Disney Animated Classics. My personal favourite has to be 1988-1998. It had:

1988: Oliver & Company
1989: The Little Mermaid
1990: The Rescuers Down Under
1991: Beauty And The Beast
1992: Aladdin
1994: The Lion King
1995: Pocahontas
1996: The Hunchback Of Notre Dame
1997: Hercules
1998: Mulan

So that is mine but what is yours?

Acutally this is a hard one for me since I don't know all of every single Disney film made.

No one said the years had to be consecutive , so here's the years I felt were best* for DACs. The number after each title is where it ranks in my own listing. I haven't yet figured where I would rank Pinocchio, which shares 1940 with Fantasia, so there's no number for it.

1940: Pinocchio (#?) & Fantasia (#9)

1941: Dumbo (#7)

1953: Peter Pan (#3)

1959: Sleeping Beauty (#8 )

1973: Robin Hood (#4)

1985: The Black Cauldron (#10)

1991: Beauty and the Beast (#1)

1992: Aladdin (#1)

1995: Pocahontas (#5)

2005: Chicken Little (#6)

*best as in my personal feelings, and not necessarily what films have high critical praise, great box-office returns, or a headscratching capacity to brainwash millions of moviegoers into thinking it's a great movie (*cough* The Lion King *cough*).

plus Who Framed Roger Rabbit? and The Nightmare Before Christams if you want to count them.

1989-1999. The majority of my favourite animated classics fall into those years (5 out of my top 10) as well as number 12.

If you ask me 10 individual years they would be

1940: Pinocchio
1941: Dumbo
1959: Sleeping Beauty
1962: 101 Dalmatians
1989: The Little Mermaid
1991: Beauty and the Beast
1995: Pocahontas
1996: The Hunchback of Notre Dame
1997: Hercules
2002: Lilo & Stitch

rsandcm1 your years sound pretty ideal, though I wouldve added 1999 so that Tarzan could be added to that list

but of course if I were to split them into 2 five years I would choose...

1950-1955 (Cinderella, AiW, Peter Pan, Lady and the Tramp)
1989-1994 (TLM, tRDU, BatB, Alladin, The Lion King)

I say 1989-1999 for consecutive for me:

89: Little Mermaid
91: Beauty and the Beast
92: Aladdin!!
94: Lion King
95: Pocahontas
97: Hercules
98: Mulan
99: Tarzan

I left out Hunchback 'cause I haven't seen it in a reeeallllyyy long time.

Those years had some great non- DAC's too such as:
93: Nightmare Before Christmas
95: Toy Story
98: A Bug's Life
99: Toy Story 2

So far in this thread I'm seeing the 90's quite alot, so I'm wondering do you perfer the 90's over the other decades or Is it that the 90's movies are made better than the previous films?

I'll admit, for me it's probably a big percentage of nostalgia, I grew up in '88 so those movies were coming out as I was growing up.

And I guess I just like the look and feel of them too. Also the music is top-notch in most of those movies (thank you Alan Menken and Howard Ashman!)

Probably has to do with fact that most people here grew up in the 90's loving disney and what's not. And fact that 90's had alot of disney movies, one each year, unlike the other decades.

Animated Films like Disney classic take awhile to make so I don't know how each year there was a new movie. I prefer the orginals of the 50's, 60's, and 70's more, because these where the one's I grew up watching over and over again.

I think my personal favorite is 1943-1952. Because I really love the package films, especially The Three Caballeros (1945), Fun and Fancy Free (1947), and Melody Time (1948). Alice in Wonderland (1951) is one of my favorite Disney movies, and Cinderella is very likeable (1950).

Looks like my list has changed over the years, probably because of the rewatching of some of them and new found appreciations. I still haven't seen the movies from the 1940's(Saludos Amigos, The Three Caballeros, Make Mine Music, Fun and Fancy Free, Melody Time) in a long while...but when I do, this list will most likely change.

Yep. In terms of personal feelings (which I like overall), I could never pick one over the other. But if I had to distinguish between certain criteria (which has better songs, animation, story, characters, or any other thing), then one would often outrank the other. But as a whole, I always felt both would always be my two favorite Disney films.

For example, if I were judging the animated films based on which songs I felt were the best, I'd easily give the top spots to both Pocahontas and...surprise, surprise...Cinderella. I feel both are consistent in portraying the messages and themes of their story and characters, while also having the two most romantic songs in the Disney canon ("If I Never Knew You" and "So This Is Love"). It's interesting to note, though, that while Pocahontas is #5 on my "overall" list, I usually find myself ranking Cinderella somewhere in the 16-23 range.
