read the press release here:

http://www.channelcanada.com/Article2039.html

a show listing is included.

Horay for Aladdin, Little Mermaid, New adventures of Winnie the pooh, Bear in the Big Blue House, PB and J Otter being shown! I know Family sometimes shows them but it good to have the place where they're always on. Any hope for older Disey shows like Ducktales or Adventures in Wonderland being shown? I can always dream.

Now whre's Canada's Vault Disney Channel! :x

Interesting that this is a channel meant for young kids and yet it's 24 hours....

Even though it's for the little kiddies, the kid inside of me is super excited that they will be airing Aladdin and The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. :)

Kind of sad to see Hercules is missing :( Oh well, time to start recording those shows since they aren't on dvd....yet. I wonder if they'll just show the same episode over and over all day like they often do to the current Family Channel?

Is there no Disney Channel in Canada- is the Family Channel just like Disney Channel? Besides Disney shows, what else is shown on Family Channel?

I think that it's neat that Playhouse Disney will have its own channel- does that mean that the Playhouse Disney shows won't be shown on Family Channel anymore?

Family channel=Disney Channel - commercials during shows.

They have some of their own shows, like Rado Free Roscoe, some even with Corbin Bleu Amy. They also sometimes show older Disney stuff like Mom For Christmas was on last year plus some non-disney stuff from Nickalodean. I'm guessing they'll still show Playhouse Disney shows from 6 am-12pm like they usually do even with the new channel.

Canada currently does not have the Disney Channel, Toon Disney or any other related Disney type channel. While Family Channel is not owned or operated by the Disney company, they do have an exclusive contract to air Disney shows in Canada. Family Channel also airs Canadian content shows (as per conditions with the Canadian Radio and Television Communciations board that states all Canadian owned stations must have at least 30% Canadian televisions shows) and family-friendly movies (like Jumanji, Ghostbusters, Baby Geniuses, etc).

Having a new channel, like Playhouse Disney, with the word "Disney" actually in the title is a huge step in Canadian broadcasting. It means that Disney is finally realizing there is a market in Canada for all-Disney TV content. I'm hoping it's a good sign that we soon might get all the Disney channels that the US have.

^ yeah I love Family Channel, mostly because there aren't any commercials.. I hope one day Canada will get Disney Channel, but it will kind of screw things up for Family so i dunno. It's really fine as it is, it's just annoying we have to wait for some movie and TV show premieres.

Playhouse Disney should be great! Aladdin and Little Mermaid!! Is this going to be on basic cable or is it a pay channel?

Are you speaking of "Flight 29 Down"? That's on Discovery Kids here, and I watch that. I know that he was on a couple episodes of Nickelodeon's "Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide" or something like that and he has been on "Hannah Montana". Is he on other shows that I haven't mentioned?!?
