Does anyone know what these are from? They are NOT from the PAL UK DVD release (I don't think). This content is amazing with some GREAT info and really rare clips. Why hasn't Disney released this content (let alone the movie) on DVD?

I believe those segments are from the Brazillian or South American release of the dvd, a wonderful alternative for those waiting for So Dear To My Heart to be rereleased in the US. It is a region 4 dvd, but it plays in my rather average machines without a problem. So Dear To My Heart is one of my favorite and most treasured Disney movies, and I'm so happy to have found it on dvd with some wonderful bonus material. It's truly a shame that Disney has not made this film available to the mass market in the US for many years now.

it looks like there is more to the making of material. what other bonuses are on the disc?

Yes they are on the UK DVD. It is the bonus feature "Lost and Found".

At the 1:56 mark on the first video, the guy mentions how, after that scene, the film was supposed to go into animation. He must mean that an animated sequence would've came right after that scene, not that the rest of the film would've been in animation, right?

It's also on the Dutch (NL) release of the DVD

Well the film does wander in and out of animation and live action. Some scenes start in animation and morph into the live action footage. So it's quite possible that the live action footage would have literally lead into animation. Which is quite likely considering that scene was features Burl Ives singing what was to be a lead in to the deleted song "Old Dan Tucker".

I know that the film has some animation in it...do you mean that you think that the song "Old Dan Tucker" would've been accompanied by animation?

I just wonder how much more animation was planned to be in the movie than actually is.

It's an absolute TRAVESTY that this film is still unavailable on DVD in Region 1.

What are they waiting for? Surely there is nothing anyone would find "offensive" in this film, or else it would not have run MULTIPLE times on Vault Disney whilst Song Of The South was forced to stand in the corner, banished...

So, you could say that this film is so dear to your heart, right? (I know, I'm a dork! I just had to say that...!)

I agree, though- there isn't anything offensive in this film...does Disney think that, if this movie is released in Region 1, that people will think that it is "Song of the South" with its name changed?!?!

What I don't understand is why it was available on VHS consistently but never on DVD. Like Alice In Wonderland and Pete's Dragon it was for many years one of the few movies that was never out of print...until it disappeared.

Unfortunately, I have a feeling it wasn't a big enough seller for Disney, and it doesn't have a famous marketable character to put on the cover to attract those who aren't familiar with the movie. However, in this age of DVDs which must be far less expensive to produce than VHS tapes, and when so many obscure titles are available, it's frustrating that Disney has made this film unavailable.

I agree, it's frustrating. If they don't know how to "market" it, perhaps the best way is to play up the fact that there is ANIMATION in the movie (even though it's primarily live action) and tout it being "first time on DVD". Surely that would give it the edge over some of the more obscure live action titles they've released (although I am also a fan of the classic "obscure" live action films and want to see more of those as well!

I would love this movie to be release soon in R1...

The Brazil DVD is Region 1 and 4 so it plays fine on any US DVD player. You can find them pretty cheaply online.

It can't be too hard to produce a Region 1 DVD....

It's not like they have to translate it into English, either!

And this was one of Walt's favorite of his films!!

I finally just imported this DVD from the U.K.... I have watched the extras and had a quick look at parts of the movie. The presentation looks excellent. I look forward to watching it in full this weekend...
