New Galaxy Anime, a new company based in Humboldt, California that intends to distribute anime in North America, has officially announced its formation. It currently lists The Fantastic Adventures of Unico, a 1981 film directed by anime pioneer Osamu Tezuka, as a future bilingual release without a scheduled date. The film about a young unicorn's journey was released in English in the 1980s with the early voice work of Karen Prell and Wendee Lee. Update: New Galaxy Anime's listed credits of Karen Prell and Wendee Lee is disputed.

I remember seeing gone called Unico and the Island of Magic. It was a cool but very whacked out flick.

Yes, IMO the Island of Magic was more entertaining. But Fantastic Adventures has its good moments too. I loved the end with the kitten/girl going to the prince's castle and getting drunk.

Yes, that's also a favorite scene of mine. And her name was Katy ("Katy's the kitty to call"). He was like a spirit of the forest and he had possessed berries that he would put in her glasses of wine. Then he tied her to the Tower roof / needle and she blew in the stormy wind while he transformed into a dragon. Sort of felt a bit like Sleeping Beauty.

Anyway, it'll be a tragedy if Unico in/on/and the Island of Magic doesn't come out too, soon. Infamously, I've only seen the first 40 minutes and then the tape just... ran out, sort of. So... the only way to see it is with YouTube. The part the tape stopped on was when Unico was talking to the animals in the Cave / Rock thing. The very moment when they started.

LOL, yeah, I love that whole part!

Now technically this is the 2nd Unico movie coming out. The 3rd being Island of Magic. The first movie was never dubbed in to English. I wish they would. All they need to do is find someone who can do that whiny annoying as hell voice, lol. Actually the actress who did Unico is still alive, well, and doing voice work. So its totally possible they could re-dub it. But it may depend on demand and how much they sell of this first DVD whether or not the 3rd movie and last the 1st movie will be released.

Yep, English-speaking people love anime. Which is I guess why American / international companies decided to dub so much of it. Funny this is, when they turned the show Sailor Moon into English, they also apparently cut footage because they found it to be too violent and sexual. Strangely enough. So, in it's original Asian form, much of it would be unrecognizable. With that in mind, and you take a look at something like Unico... Katy is basically like a 10 year old girl who is wooed by this guy who is obviously about 20-25, something like that.

Hmm...
