I've noticed all the great directors have a beard. Coppela (er, Francis Ford that is, not Sofia!), Spielberg, Scott, Cameron, Lucas, Fincher, Jackson, Kubrick, Burton... the list goes on and on. Even Nimoy grows a beard especially for his directing duties (apart from the Star Trek films he also stars in), and Jonathan Frakes even grew a beard before his directing duties. I'm sure it was his beard that convinced Paramount to take a chance on him directing (but they let him direct a few TV episodes first... his beard was far to neat for him to have the apperance of a true great director).

I have a beard. It's often quite a messy beard. Have I missed by true vocational calling?

I'm gonna grow a beard so I can become a famous director!

Well I intend on growing a beard after high school (the "no facial hair" school rule must die) and I also intend on directing, so here's hoping I'm successful.

I personally like fat directors with beards, myself - Moore, Jackson, Smith - big fan of their films.

Much as I like Smith's work, I would hardly call him a great director. But then again, Dogma and Jay and Slient Bob Strike Back did have some shots with a moving camera Perhaps Smith will be the next great director of our generation.

I wonder if Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back will ever get the critical acclaim of Citizen Kane?

I've just realised, while John Landis has a beard (as you would expect) Joe Dante doesn't! And never has!

Kevin Smith & George Romero have beards. And both of them are a little heavy.
