Walt Disney World Christmas Day parade taping
By Kristin Ford
Orlando Sentinel

Before I could tell you about it, they were gone. It took less than 6 hours on Thursday for passholder tickets for the taping of the Walt Disney World Christmas Day parade to be snapped up. I knew they went quickly because I hadn't been able to secure reservations in past years. But 6 hours? Unbelieveable.
Earlier this week, a note appeared on the passholder Web site, indicating that in November we would be able to submit requests for the Nov. 30 taping of celebrity performances on the castle stage in the Magic Kingdom. That especially interested me because of the expected performers: 'High School Musical' stars, Billy Ray Cyrus, Jonas Brothers, Joey Fatone and Drew Lachey, Josh Groban, Harlem Boys Choir and Whitney Houston. The lineup has not been confirmed by Disney, but I did find it on an online source that has been accurate in the past.

If you were not one of the lucky ones and you want to see the taping, you still can.

The Magic Kingdom is open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. that day, which means you can arrive an hour after those with reserved tickets. Also, the following day, Dec. 1, Disney will be taping the Kelly Ripa and Regis Philbin segments. The park opens at 9 a.m. that day as well.

Be forewarned: It might not be worth your while. My family went last year without tickets and it was incredibly difficult to navigate Main Street. Cast members were firm in not allowing anyone inside the ropes who didn't have a wristband, which meant we couldn't see much over the crowd of spectators that were a dozen or more deep.

Much as my husband and I thought we made a mistake going that day, my children would disagree. In the afternoon, we had a short, unobstructed view of Corbin Bleu, Ashley Tisdale, Monique Coleman and Lucas Grabeel practicing for the taping.

I received my Passholder magazine a few days ago, and I meant to sign up for a reserved spot for the taping on November 30th. Well, I'm a procrastinator, and, when I checked last night, the spots were all gone. I was surprised that they went so quickly, but that was 2 days after they started being available- the article I posted mentions how they were gone after 6 hours. I should've reserved my spot right away. I'm very upset. I've hopefully learned my lesson.

I want to see Corbin Bleu in the parade, and I'm still going to go to the park the morning of November 30th and try to catch a peak. The author of the article says that she saw the HSM cast practicing- I want to see them practicing!!!

Is anyone else planning on going to the taping?

I went last year and we had a lot of fun. We did not have wristbands but we made it really close to the castle for the performances. We also saw the High School Musical performance the following day.

Won't make it this year, going later in December...

So, dizfan, the castle is where the "High School Musical" cast will be (when I saw them on TV last year at the parade, I thought they were just in a float...)? When I get there, should I just try and make my way to the castle? Is their parade route the same as the normal Main Street parades?

No last year they were on Main Street next to the Emporium.

I will be the firm cast member not letting anyone in the ropes without a wristband. To my knowledge, the only confirmed guests so far are participants from this years "Dancing with the Stars." This will supposedly be the smallest WDW Christmas parade yet, with Disneyland's being longer. At the moment, it would appear that the HSM cast will be at Disneyland instead of WDW. I'll post more when I hear more.

:( I hadn't realized that Disneyland also has a parade...but I guess that when I've seen the parade in years' past that they switch between the two. That really bursts my bubble...I was sooooo excited to go, and now not so much. :(

Jessica Simpson will be the performer on the castle stage for the parade this year.

That's really cool! Maybe I'll go even if the HSM cast isn't there...I wonder if I'd be able to see, though, since I don't have a reserved spot...

Just an update, The High School Musical cast was at Disneyland yesterday filming for this. They sang What Time is it? Christmas Time! Everyone was there except for the main guy.

:( On the Corbin forum I'm a member of, someone mentioned that, too. :( :( :(

Did the rest of the acts for Disneyland's section of the parade already film their parts, or just the HSM cast?

At least I can try and see Jessica Simpson.

CorbinBleuFans.com posted this link to a video of the HSM cast (minus Zac and Lucas) performing for the Christmas parade:

Corbin got to sing Zac's parts!!!! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 I still wish that they performed at WDW, but I can't wait to watch it again on TV on Christmas...on a big screen!

*edit*- According to the administrator of CorbinBleuFans.com, that was just the rehearsal.

All of the Disneyland parts were filmed on Saturday. It was incredibly boring to watch. Film 2 minutes worth of stuff, stop for half an hour.

Oh, so that could be not the rehearsal but the final version?

Nope it was the final version. Lets just say it is not nearly as spontaneous as it appears on TV.

If anyone is interested, I posted the pictures I took at the parade taping on my Photobucket account:
http://s231.photobucket.com/albums/ee22/concert81807/ (starting on page 5).

Friday was a lot of standing around and having sore feet and legs, but it was really pretty cool. (Friday is when they filmed the performances at the Castle.) Yesterday, however, I went to see the Jonas Brothers, and I saw 2 of them for a second and didn't get a good picture (people's heads and Main Street marquees were in the pictures instead). And, when they were performing at the hub of Main Street, even though I had a great spot right in front of the Emporium, there was a GIANT snowflake balloon in my way...

In case you're wondering, in the pictures are Patti LaBelle, the stars of "Dancing with the Stars"- Drew Lachey, Joey Fatone, and Sabrina Bryan, and Jon Secada sang during that part, Mickey and Minnie, and Jessica Simpson. We didn't stay around for Katharine McPhee, but she was there, too.

Registration for 2009 Walt Disney World Christmas Day Parade Taping Now Open; Days Extended
http://www.stitchkingdom.com/2009/10/22 ... -extended/
(via disneyreport.com)

I just registered for myself and a guest (I don't know who I'd bring yet), so I just need to wait for an email! And park admission is included, including for the rest of the day, so yippee!!! :pink: I registered for Thu. and Fri., so I don't know if I'd get both, or just one (or any, really). I wonder who will be performing this year!

I just got emails- I have 2 tickets for the Thursday taping and 2 for the Friday taping! And for the Friday taping, I have to be there at 7am, and I will be (and my guest will be) part of the opening number, whatever that is! Woohoo! :pink: And it's cool, because you have to give a 4-hour commitment , but after 4 hours on those days, I can play in the park!

Taping you mean for Thanksgiving on CBS? They cut between too many parades.

Nope, taping for the Christmas parade, but they tape it over 3 days in early December.
