This is kind of off topic, but what is everybody's favourite old Rankin/Bass Christmas special? I love them all, but Rudolph is probably mine and a lot of people's fave.
So what do you think?

OH, and apparantly there's a new book out about Rankin/Bass. Supposed to be excellent!

I've only seen the first 4, but I've actually watched them all within the last week, so they're fresh in my mind.

My favorite would have to be Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, I guess. Frosty feels kind of flat, but I very much like Santa Claus is Comin' To Town, and I found The Little Drummer Boy to be surprisingly more moving than I remembered, even if the 'animation' is pretty rough around the edges.

So, yeah, I guess I'd go with Rudolph. It's a fun one, though not my all-time favorite Christmas special.

You forgot "the year without a santa claus!" That is a great one to be sure, if only for the awesome heatmiser/coldmiser song exchange. Out of those I'd have to say Santa Claus is Comin' to Town. Good poll idea. :santa:

Love 'em all, but Rudolph is of course, King.
But Bergermeister Meisterberger makes a solid push for #2 8)

I like them all very much, but Rudolph definitely is the most memorable to me. The others are quite good, too, though.

I have to admit I haven't seen all of these, but of the ones I have seen, my favorite if Rudolph :)

Yeah, Frosty and Santa Claus is Comin'... are definitely in a close 2nd and 3rd. And I would have included Pinocchio's Christmas and Leprhaucan's (sp?) Christmas Gold, but I really wanted to include the sequels to the others.

OH, and are the new "Frosty Returns" and "Rudolph: The Island of Misfit Toys" done by the same company?

I voted for Rudolph because it was the first film of Christmas I saw growing up. Usually broadcast by CBS every year. I watch the other films on ABC family channel special "25 days of Christmas".
Also Rudoph shows that anyone can acheve anything by beliving themselves.

Not being one to stand out from the crowd, I went with Rudolph as well :P

I have to admit, in my old age they are all starting to blur into one. But Rudolph does stand out. That and his Shiny New Year. That one I remember vividly.

I think I will have to get them all on DVD now...

Rudolph is definately #1 in my book, though Santa Clause is Comin' to Town and The Year W/O A Santa Clause come in a close second...

I could not find Frosty's Winter Wonderland and was mad that Frosty Returns appears on the Frosty DVD, but not Winter Wonderland which would be more fitting....

I am also mad cause I did not get Jack Frost when I had the chance and now I can not get it  :( , and it was only $7 at FYE...

With out a doubt for me my choice was Frosty the Snowman I have always had a soft spot for him. I never wanted to see him melt that was allways the most dreaded thing to me about his Life Lol :D .

It's quite possible that I'm the world's biggest Christmas freak, so of course, I've seen all of these! Why oh why oh why is my favorite Rankin Bass (and favorite Christmas movie, for that matter) not there? The Year Without A Santa Claus!!!!!!

Of those listed, though, it's Rudolph, so I'll vote for it.

Santa Claus is coming to town!

I voted for that one because it was most like my favorite which is not on the list: The Life and Adventures of Santa Clause or something like that. It was "clay/toy/figuremation" too but I'm not sure if it was Rankin/Bass b/c it looked a little different than their usual characters.

What about Nester the long earred donkey? or the one about the blind boy in the convent and the first Chirstmas snow made him able to see? That one almost made me cry.
