FINALLY! The information about the enhancement and expansion of DCA has finally surfaced in a major news source. I hope this is followed on Wednesday with the official Disney announcement!

Interesting. I have never been to California Adventure. Haven't been to Disneyland since I was like 6 or something. Always went to Disney World after that. I don't know if I should be disappointed that I'll never know what it was originally like, even though it's supposed to be so lame. I'm also not sure how good these new ideas are. Sounds like they could do a lot better. I think they should have built Westcot, myself. I'm amazed it was even considered though, since I'm always hearing that EPCOT is considered such a dud (personally, I LOVE EPCOT, especially oldschool EPCOT). One thing that could be cool is the Little Mermaid ride, if they make it a good one! Maybe like the one on the Platinum DVD!

I can tell you based on my experiences is that it is not as bad as they say, but far from as a good as it can be. To compare it to WDW I would say that as it is right now, I think it's more fun and has more to do than MGM.

The only downside to not experiencing it before the re-do is that you won't know just how much better it is after.

Most of those changes sound pretty good. I'll be sorry to see the Maliboomer go, since that is one of my favorite rides, but it will be worth it if the park as a whole improves.

Since I'd like to travel to the Shore Leave convention on the East Coast and go on a guided tour through Israel in the next five years, I'm perfectly content to wait until construction is finished before visiting Disneyland Resort again.

To Sum up here are the changes that were announced today:

1.) Sunshine Plaza will be turned into Walt Disney Plaza. The CALIFORNIA letters will be removed and the entire entry will look like 1920's LA when Walt first arrived to CA.

Complete with a new Partners statue with younger Walt and early Mickey and the Carthay Theatre housing the new "Walt Disney Story" attraction.

Red Trolley cars of those days will take Guests from the entrance down Hollywood Blvd. upto the Tower of Terror for added kinetic energy.

2.) The Little Mermaid Ride will take up where Golden Dreams to Souvinier 66 are right now. The massive E-Ticker OmniMover dark ride is inspired by the unbuild Disneyland Paris attraction. The facade seems inspired from Prince Eric's castle with turrets and flags but much more victorian with a beautiful stain glass window of Ariel above the entrance. No opening date yet.

3.) Goofy's Sky Skool Coaster This will be a rethemed Mullholland Madness with Goofy as a flying instructor.

4.) Pizza Oom Mow Mow and Burger Invasion will thankfully be torn out and replaced with a beautiful "Beer Garden" with tables, fountains, and a stage for outdoor entertainment.

5.) Paradise Pier will be a beautiful victorian seaside resort come next summer with Toy Story Midway Mania as it's spotlight attraction. Nothing new there, I know but the concept art they showed was just "WOW".

Sun Wheel will unfortunatley lose it's Sun Face and replace it with a Mickey Face (?????!!!!!)

6.) The area in front of The Little Mermaid will be reconstructed so that it can be a tierd viewing area for 9,000 guests for Disney's World of Color lagoon show.

7.) Car Land will debut with three attractions: the E-Ticket Radiator Springs Racers which is 3rd generation Test Track technology. A Luigi Ride which will bring back the favorite Flying Saucers only with Tires. And a Mater attraction which I am not too familiar with. A Drive In Movie Theatre themed restaurant will also be part of the land.

The level of detail here seems like Tokyo quality, it's amazing!

Not much I don't like except the entry turnstiles look JUST like MGM's, but that's not too bad.

Yeah, thanks for the summary. It sounds better than reading it in the article. Gets down to the nitty gritty. I can't compare it since I haven't been there, but from what I've read, it sounds like some major changes. I think us hardcore Disney fans might really love it, especially with the emphasis on Walt, but I'm just wondering if that's going to appeal to the average visitor. Though, I guess most don't come to Disney parks for the Main Street areas and those always appeal more to the nostalgic types.

While I liked Cars a lot, the Radiator Springs section seemed like a bit too much Cars stuff. I mean, I felt it was the weakest of the PIXAR films (haven't seen Ratatouille yet, but it looks more original), and it's getting a whole land of its own? I do think it would be cool to see a real Radiator Springs though, and it's good to hear that there will be more than one ride. Still, it seems excessive to make a whole section devoted to one film when you consider how big Disney's library is. But maybe I'm imagining it as more than it will be.

I'm always up for new Little Mermaid stuff, so that really sounds awesome to me. I hope it will be a fully realized castle exterior! Sort of the castle of this park (though obviously not the center focus or symbol, but maybe equated with the mountains of the other parks?) They should add a Bald Mountain villain ride too, ha. And a fully realized Pizza Planet!

Other changes in store....California Screamin' will lose it's famous Mickey head to be replaced with a "Paradise Pier graphic". This is why Mickey will be added to Sun Wheel. The Wheel will also get queue enhancements and LED lighting.

From what I understand, the changes will be gradual and take a few years.

You know, it's eerie; I've been to Disneyland about 5 times since DCA opened. Once, we made it our plan to go into DCA, but...we opted for Disneyland Park instead. Disneyland Park has won out on all 5 trips to Anaheim (we live about 80 miles north of there). I could have gone into DCA at any time since it opened. For some reason I've never wanted to. It just doesn't seem that interesting. For one thing, it costs as much as the bigger park $66. I don't want to pay $91 for a park hopper ticket that only lasts one day! In that case, it's still not worth it, because there's only so many hours in the day, and you wouldn't be able to see everything you wanted to anyway. It should have been $66 for the park hopper tickets and then attendance would have gone way up at DCA, if you ask me. I just thought it was a gyp--charging $66 for a park that everything tells me sucks. But life goes on--

Actually, the revamped park sounds like an extension of Disneyland. I don't see why there has to be separate admission, do you? They should make it into one big mammoth park. If they did, then Disneyland would be the best ding-dong park in the history of the planet.

The changes actually sound intriguing and positive. I think it's going to work out for them this time.

Also, I'm looking forward to everything here! I just hope they go with everything they said that would and not be another repeat of the 1990s parks plans, which were never realized despite their full announcements. I hope they don't get undercut by some cheap (and I do mean cheap) corporate tactics.

Don't forget about Toy Story Mania which opens summer 2008 which will be similar to Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters.

Similar in that you shoot for points, but Toy Story Midway Mania will be much more immersive.

Also, Mickey's PhilharMagic will be added to Hollywood Pictures Backlot replacing the unpopular MuppetVision.

Why on Earth is Muppetvision unpopular? The one in Florida is a great show! Is it the same show?

YEA for the Little Mermaid ride!! From the concept art it looks as if they will use the clam-mobiles that are currently used in the dark ride part of The Seas with Nemo and Friends at Epcot. It's sad they are removing Muppet-Vision 3D, anyone have a link to that?
