I know this isn't really DVD news but its international news so I thought I'd but it here.

Since "Mulan" isn't out on DVD yet and the VHS has long been deleted then I am really looking foward to seeing this movie again since I was to stupid to not have taped it when it was shown on Disney channel about 3 years ago.

"Mulan" will be shown on BBC1 on Boxing Day at 4:35, a definate crimbo treat in my eyes.

Any it will most likely have the headbutt intact. Take that BBFC!

Actually, Mulan was released on DVD in 1999 (R1) and 2000 (R2) and is now out of print. If you really want it on DVD, you may be able to find it second hand. You could for example try Blackstar's video hunt service:

They are a bit on the expensive side (£34.99 for Mulan on DVD), but so far they have been successful in every single case I have thrown at them.

It was released in the UK for about seven days. After that it was withdrawn from sale becuase it featured the wrong BBFC certificate - Disney submitted a version with the headbutt edited out, but accidently released a DVD with the headbutt intact. It had to be recalled due to British law.

I guess Disney are appealing the decision - they've had plenty of time to correct the fault and get a new version out.

Aha, so that's what happened. I didn't know that.

Anyway, the DVD was available for a long time in my country (Sweden), and I guess it must have been in most other European countries as well.

There are, for example, plenty of second hand copies for sale at amazon.de.

Not only that but the Mulan DVD that was released over here was a bare bones release, I meant its not been released as a "proper" Classics (with new classics logo) DVD.

so does the R2 mulan dvd that was withdrawn have the headbutt scene?
because i have that dvd and always wondered if it had been cut as the bbfc said?

Just to let anyone who's interested know the headbutt was intact!

I just saw Mulan for the first time and I thought it was completely overrated. The only vaguely 'special' moments were the bits with the ghostly ancestors, and the avalanche scene where the huns attack. The animation was perfectly adequate throughout, but the story, characters and dialogue were just ordinary and unmagical. So I won't be buying it if and when it comes out...but at least I can say I've seen the headbutt!
Is the Emperor's New Groove better? I was thinking of getting that next.

Since you don't really like Mulan and I think its one of Disneys best I don't know whether you want to take my opinion on The Emperor's New Groove but I'll give it anyways.
I think TENG is a perfectly fine movie all round but like your opinion of Mulan I just don't think its all that special. It packs in loads of laugh's and the animation is quite different and cartoony (in a good way) but once I'd watched it and I thought "Well that was nice" nothing more nothing less. I've since watched it about 3 or 4 times and sadly more thoughts haven't changed.

Thanks for that. It sounds good to me, but maybe I just prefer my animation cartoony and full of laughs. Perhaps my biggest criticism of Mulan is that leaving aside the fantasy elements of the ancestors and Mushu it might have made a good live-action film, and therefore i didn't find it distinctive enough to warrant treatment as an animated feature. But maybe I was a bit critical of it, because I'd just seen Beauty and the Beast for the first time a few days before, and it suffered by comparison!

does anyone know what kind of ratings mulan got, it would be interesting to know how many people watched it.

What do you mean by rating's Ichabod?

Well since he said he wanted to know how many people watched it, I would assume ichabod means viewer ratings
