WB has bought all of the Peanuts specials from Paramount and will be re-releasing them with new transfers and bonus material. The first two will be Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown January 15 and It's the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown on February 26. Click here to read more about it.

I'm really happy with this news. I've been avoiding the Paramount releases because they've been pretty shoddy and pricey considering what was (or wasn't) offered. Hopefully this means the animated version of You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown will come to DVD at last. I also hope the tv special on the making of A Charlie Brown Christmas hosted by Whoopi Goldberg makes it on the re-release of that show; it was conspicuously absent on the Paramount release.

That's because instead of make a new DVD of "A Charlie Brown Christmas" with that special, they included it on "I Want A Dog For Christmas, Charlie Brown".

I'm excited for this news, as I'm hoping it means we'll be getting more specials per disc instead of seemingly one special + one bonus per disc.

Would Warner also be re-releasing "This is America, Charlie Brown"? I haven't yet had a chance to buy the Paramount one, but if Warner's gonna release a new one, I'll hold off a bit longer.

Also, hopefully this means we'll also see Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown (And Don't Come Back!) on DVD.

Well, does Warner's deal include feature length films? Because I think Paramount just might hold onto that one.

It's hard to tell. On one hand, the article says WB aquired the entire Peanuts library. On the other hand, it later says that they'll be releasing over 50 TV specials and episodes, no mention of theatrical features. I can see it going either way, but for now, I'm going to be optimistic and say the deal includes theatrical films, too. The article says WB made the deal directly with the Peanuts right holders and Schulz's estate, so I can only assume WB owns everything, now, especially since they'll be producing direct-to-video features themselves.

Hmm. Well, I don't know what this'll be like but hopefully it's good news. I so far only have the boxed set of the Christmas, Halloween, and Thanksgiving specials. The extras they have are: It's Christmas Time Again, Charlie Brown, You're Not Elected Charlie Brown, and The Mayflower Voyages.

As I understand it, "I Want a Dog For Christmas" is its own DVD, and it includes "Charlie Brown's Christmas Tales," and, oddly, the making of "A Charlie Brown Christmas." That's according to Amazon.com. I still need to get this one. Don't know if I'll wait for and see if it gets a rerelease. I also badly want the Valentine and Easter specials. Of course, I'd like to get all this stuff, but those are my priorities. Still need the non-holiday Garfield stuff too.
