So what do you think will be the Platinum Releases of 2009? :?:

I think one of them will be Pinocchio but the other I have no idea. maybe they'll restart the cycle with Snow White? Maybe give us a Fantasia Platinum?

I would also like to see special editions of the following come out at some point: Saludos Amigos, The Three Caballeros, Make Mine Music, Fun and Fancy Free, Melody Time, The Adventues of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, The Sword in the Stone, The Rescuers, The Black Cauldron, and The Great Mouse Detective. :)

To add to your list of movies you'd like to see special editions of, I'd also include "Oliver & Company", "The Hunchback of Notre Dame", "Hercules", and the "Lilo & Stitch" 2-disc set (in addition to "The Aristocats", which [hopefully] will still be coming in 2-disc form).

As for your original question, I can't know, obviously, but I'd love "Pinocchio" to come out (it probably will in 2009). I'd rather they put out "Fantasia" before starting over with the original Platinums, but who knows what Disney will do.

My prediction is,
Pinocchio: Spring 2009
Fantasia: Fall 2009

I think it would be a lot smarter for Disney to finish off the whole Platinum Edition line before starting over (if they even decide to start over). It seems Disney is pretty dedicated to Blu Ray, so perhaps they will start releasing previous Platinum Editions like: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Beauty and the Beast, and The Lion King etc on Blu Ray rather than recycling them under that Platinum line.

Yup, those ones as well. I would also like to see a 2 disc Robin Hood. Robin Hood is probably my favourite as I watched it lots wen I was a kid. And there is also Song of The South which we keep waiting for.

Pinocchio better be Spring 2009. Poor Pinocchio. He keeps getting pushed back to make way for other films with decent DVD releases in existence in region 1.

Spring - Pinocchio
Fall - Fantasia

I've said it before, and chances are I'll say it again. The platinum line should NOT be restarted. That doesn't mean Snow White, Beauty and the Beat, The Lion King Ect. should not be re-issued, just that they should not be re-issued under the "Platinum" bannar again. It would take away from the specialness of the set.

And I personally would like to see the platinum line continue after Fantasia/Pinocchio. Yes it would make the set less exclusive, but personally I'd like to see every disney animated classic get the platinum treatment.

I also wonder why restart the line. It would be a waste, IMO. Give us films/features that deserve getting the treatment.

I hope they release Snow White and Fantasia in 2009, I haven't been a big fan of Pinocchio.

Yep,togather with Peter Pan and Sleeping Beauty,it's for sure Pinocchio and Fantastia, becouse Disney are releasing a Disney Princess movie each year like:
2006-Little Mermaid PE.
2007-Enchanted.
2008-Sleeping Beauty PE.
2009-Frog and the Princess.
and so on,it's sure will be Pinocchio and Fantasia.

I hope it's Pinocchio and Fantasia. I missed out on getting both of them.

And I also hope they don't stop reissuing these movies in good 2-Disc DVD sets if they decide to reissue them without the Platinum banner. I missed The Lion King, and I don't want my next chance to get it to be a crappy 1-Disc set.

I think it'd be neat to see Dumbo, Song Of The South 3 Amegios and Sauldos Amegios in the platinum line, Song Of The South defintly would be a mega mega seller in the platinum line.

As for predictions here's some of mine.

Spring 2008: 101 Dalmations (confirmed)

Fall 2008: Pinocchio (Replaced by S.Beauty)

Spring 09: Fantasia

Fall 09: Sleeping Beauty.

Think it would've been fun to see 101 paired with Pinocchio, they're such Disney milestone and I noticed in Jungle Book's Documents, especialy in Disney's Kipling Feat. They showed 4 sketches from Pinocchio then when they discussed Bill Peet, showed rough sketches for his work on 101

It all depends on DVD sales though, doesnt it? Only the best selling videos / DVDs make it into the Platinum Line. Thats What I thought it was based on anyway!

Well that was they said when the original ten were announced, but the truth is, the four add-ons actaully made more money than a few of the first 10 (most noteably, Fantasia, which is the Disney's third highest grossing film [when adjusted for inflation] of all time).

I'd like to see Dumbo and The Rescuers added to the line, since both of them saved the studio and one point and should be honoured for that. I'd also like to see Alice in Wonderland, Lilo & Stitch, Tarzan and Fantasia 2000 added to the collection

My Dream Schedule:
Spring '08: One Hundred and One Dalmatians
Fall '08: Sleeping Beauty
Spring '09: Pinocchio
Fall '09: Lilo & Stitch (add a bit to that long delayed two disc set and slap the platinum banner on it, the movie deserves it)
Spring '10: The Rescuers
Fall '10: Fantasia (70th Anniversary Platinum Edition)
Spring '11: Fantasia 2000
Fall '11: Alice in Wonderland (60th Anniversary Platinum Edition)
Spring '12: Dumbo
Fall '12: Tarzan

It won't happen, but I'd love it to. :P

that's what it used to be based on. Untill they crammed Peter Pan in there (to promote the Tinkerbell movie wich is delayed so there's really no point to it).

Anyway, does anyone think Fantasia could be the first censored Platinum edition? or has there already been one? aside from that one line in Aladdin.

The Little Mermaid and the The Lion King were both editied (the priests knees and the sexy sand no longer appear in the films).

But yeah, chances are Sunflower will be editied out again.
