Carefree, relaxing, offbeat disney films are the best!

And by this I mean Robin hood, Jungle book, The three caballeros, The Sword in the stone, The many adventures of winnie the pooh and Alice in wonderland especially (even though Pinocchio is still my favorite disney film ever hehe!)

I know several people and friends in real life that agree with this statement, but I hardly ever come across people on the internet that seem to think that way.

What about you?

Excepting TJB, I get tired of watching these films midway through. They're just not plot driven. Nothing substantial happens that can keep you hooked or the little bit interested.

I beg to differ. :)

Carefree, Relaxing, Offbeat Disney films

Well, I will build on what rodis said. Since you said you like your Disney films to be carefree, they are, since they don't have to care much about the dangers of a plot. They can be relaxing because they don't have to leave their home run by their evil stepfamily, or escape a giant whale. It seems your love of the films comes from, and the things you find substantial are, the humour and the fun. And that's perfectly all right. But recognize that people usually consider better movies to be ones about people overcoming tough obstacles rather than sight gags. The fact that you would prefer films that are lighter and happier actually gives me hope that people don't need badness and sadness to enjoy something.

I think "good" and "bad" are difficult concepts to deal with.

However, I'd say that the titles you mentioned are indeed good - at being "carefree, relaxing and offbeat".

And I can appreciate that sometimes.

Yup, I know what you mean. Sure those films have their little action scenes e.g. The Queen of Hearts chasing Alice through the maze, Shere Khan's fight with Baloo etc, but apart from that, the film just happily trundles along. No plot keeping us on the edge of our seat, just a pleasant little movie that we can enjoy. Those films also tend to be quite "episodic" in storyline as well.

Well, that statement is just a matter of opinion really, just like saying the ones that involve overcoming more serious obstacles are the best.

Personally, I love both types. Beauty and the Beast, the Little Mermaid, the Jungle Book, and the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh are four of my top fave Disney films, among others. Pooh is such a great movie to watch with a cup of cocoa on a cold, holiday night, and it'd be even better with someone to snuggle with.

Robin Hood and Little John
Walkin' through the forest
Laughin' back and forth
At what the other'ne has to say
Reminiscin', This-'n'-thattin'
Havin' such a good time
Oo-de-lally, Oo-de-lally
Golly, what a day!

Robin Hood is the stuff dreams are made of.

i couldn't agree more. i like to watch disney movies with my best friend during lunch. and everytime we hafto choose. we'd always end up with alice in wonderland. we'd go thru my dvds chronologically and usually she'd say.."depressing.depressing.sad.sad.sad" ( her selection stops at pocahontas as she doesn't care about the new ones at all) and then we would recite every single dialogue in alice and sing along and hum the score even. i never thought she'd memorize it to that extent.

i think next time we'll watch it while getting high just to get the hippie experience. :P JK

and pocahontas always fails to get shortlisted because of the mellow setting.however it always remains my favorite. :D
