I just started work at a new job a few weekends ago. Now, almost as soon as I started working there, I talked to Ron, the director of the tour show at my college, and I committed to doing sound for the show.

Here's the problem. I work 4-12 Friday and Saturday. However, Friday we have a performance at 8, and Saturday we have a performance at 3 and I won't be back until probably around 7. I am going to see if, hopefully, somebody else can do the sound for those two nights. I really don't want to have to do it that way, but if I call into work and say that I can't work those two days? But how is Ron going to look at me?

I am so confused and I don't know what to do =( My mom said to do the show on Friday and work on Saturday. I don't know =( I am so confused and upset right now =(

Any kind of input would be nice =(

Is this a one-time thing, just this weekend? If so, if you won't feel guilty about it, you could call in sick to work.

Or, if you want to risk not being able to get out of work, ask the manager and co-workers if you can switch your hours with someone.

Is there someone else who is able to do the sound if you can't? If so, then, if you can't get out of work at all, then you might have to let the other person do it and explain to Ron that you just couldn't get off of work.

If you already knew the hours and days for your job, you probably shouldn't have committed to the show at all (unless you didn't know when it was and they scheduled it later without seeing if you would be available). But I agree with Amy, if it's a one-time show, it'd be easier to call in for two days of work than to not do the show. But I personally would do the job and get someone else for the show.
